An example on the value of bridging the communication gap is being able to notify backyard poultry owners of an Avian Influenza outbreak. Note: As veterinarians at UC Davis our interest is in working with Backyard poultry and their owners to improve poultry health. The data in this survey is strictly for outreach purposes. We want to work with you. We are a university not a regulatory agency and therefore our focus is on outreach and education and not regulation and enforcement.

They are one of the best all around chickens you can get.  Not a big dual purpose bird but big enough and great layers. We definitely need more breeders.

Ive raised probably 8 or more now and only 1 had a problem My main rooster (SAM) is real gentleman and his son (Speckles) who Im breeding now is almost as good. Sam is awesome. Ive said this before he knows what my job is and lets me do it he even communicates to me when things are out of order. (water out, food etc) He even lets me pet the hens without any problem. He stands off while I do my chores and waits for me to leave. He always courts the hens. Has been amazing with the chicks. I couldnt ask for a better rooster. I have an even more docile Cream Legbar roo but he doesnt have the same rooster instincts. Speckles is a chip off the block but not quite as interactive with people as Sam. Sam does not like to be touched or held but wont fight it once you catch him. But at night when he would sleep on the coop porch he would let me pet him and he seemed to enjoy it. Like I said Pitas are simply awesome birds.
