California - Northern

Just moved from Arcata, down to Citrus Heights. I'm new as a bird owner, but I have 4 Pharaoh quail.

It is great to have you posting here!
Are you going to get other poultry too?

Thank you, and eventually we will once we're out of our apartment, and on some decent land. For now I've built a 5'/2' cage, and I've drawn up plans for stackable cages so I can get more quail.
:wee:woot

Quail at an apartment! I love it!

:pop We need pictures please

Is she eating and drinking?
Oh yea, she's eating her crumble, and her fruit, and she's drinking plenty of water. She's also still trying to escape, so I take that as a good sign. She has a bad limp on 1 leg, and a bad wing, but it doesn't feel like there's any broken bones, so I'm just isolating her and seeing what happens.

Leg mites love little quail legs. I'm still treating mine after fair.
My Crested Italian is the Houdini here. I make sure the door is closed before checking food and water, about as easy to catch and hold as a greased marble.
I can easily see quail in an apartment, quieter than a parrot.
Sounds like fun!

I might start raising quail. They would be perfect for the City and I could breed them

They're great for apartments. Their cage takes up about 1/3 of our patio, and the male hasn't crowed in a while. Nobody complained when he did. I'm working on stackable cages so I can get more birds. Also, she got out because I have a pop top cage, but I'm putting side doors on my new ones.

Hi all, haven't been on in a long while. I have a friend whose daughter is doing 4H and needs 2 youngish chicks that would be show quality. She needs to raise and show them. I don't have any experience with this, so I'm not sure where to point her. Anyone close to Tracy have anything??
