She looks sweet!

Did you post in the buy sell trade forum too?

@ronott1 I'm in So Calif and my Breda and one Dominique started laying the 3rd week of January -- rain, freeze, or heatwave these two girls always start in January. The other lazy Dom must have something wrong with her as she stopped laying before the others and she's still not layed anything yet this year -- is there such a thing as a dud hen?! :lau

It must be nice being further South! sunlight hours get longer faster.

Hens are very odd with laying sometimes. I had one group of 4 that stopped laying eggs in the early summer and did not lay an egg for 8 months or so. I was about to make them into soup and they started up again!

Were do you live in the south because I possibly can meet

I am in Los Angeles County, East San Gabriel Valley, bordering San Bernardino County, which SanBdno has had a recent Newcastles December incident and a couple backyard flocks euthanized -- leading back to a SanBdno feed store. My vet is paranoid that I don't bring any new birds onto our property until Calif gets the all clear on Newcastles reports.

Meanwhile, I'm 75 yrs old and not in any condition for long distance driving (such a problem that our Calif is so HUGE!) -- I don't even drive on our insane Southland freeways but only use side streets and short errands for driving. You are all so kind to offer assistance and I really would love that Black Silkie but I'm sure you all understand. I was even considering getting another Silkie a year ago from Amber Waves in Norco which is not too far for me -- but after my vet was adamant about no new birds on the property I didn't immediately get another Silkie after he had to put down our sweet little girl from her bleeding tumor.

Having worked in the poultry industry himself, my vet is very familiar with chickens and particularly sensitive about disease outbreaks -- last year Foster Farms here in the South euthanized their entire farm. Here in the Southland it is impossible to find a vet that sees animals other than just dogs or cats. So I was really fortunate to have found him and just 10 minutes from my home!

Again -- thank you so much for all your kind offers! Your sweet little Black Silkie has my name written all over her but my vet would kill me for taking in any new birds right now!

Peewee egg was the first indication of our Black Silkie's reproductive issues

Our sweet little "Mini" -- our littlest chicken but she was 2.1 lbs of spunky personality!!
