Updated pictures of Waddles our Buff Orpington rooster who needs a new coop. He will be 19 weeks old tomorrow. He has been vaccinated against Marek's and Coccidiosis by McMurray Hatchery. Located in Modesto. He started crowing yesterday and I can't keep him within city limits. He is tame and friendly. Asking $20 rehoming fee.

I have a question...
I'm in Stockton - it gets cold and rains sometimes but there's no snow. I've been reading about "winterizing the coop" but most are from places that snow. There was light rain on friday but my girls didn't seem to mind but it made me wonder.
...is there anything I should prepare for with chickens in this environment? Do they stop laying in the winter even though it doesn't get drastically cold?

Yes all hens stop laying while they go through their moult. As the days get shorter they start laying less eggs. You don’t need to do anything special for winter in Stockton. Just make sure their coop is dry and no drafts.

It is hard to find a home for a rooster that doesn’t plan on eating him. Good luck. There is a rooster rescue somewhere but you have to bring a bag of food when you drop them off.

Yes just provide shelter from wind and rain so they don’t get chilled. I’m in the west Delta near Stockton. Farm stand has tomatoes in December this year and winter is mild so far. ***edited to add, tomatoes were grown on site by Smith Family Farms, Sellers Road, Brentwood CA 94513. This is the first year I’ve seen tomatoes this late in the season.***

Are you sure the tomatoes are local? Some fudge and bring them in from South America
