That's where we are from! I miss it! Not the traffic but I miss a lot of things about San Jose. Lets see. For several years it was voted one of the safest big cities in the U.S. (but I haven't checked lately to see if it still holds that distinction). Of course it's still a big city with big city issues. There are 100's (if not thousands) of fantastic restaurants (I really miss that part), some really awesome hiking and biking trails, wonderful parks, museums, gardens, endless opportunities for entertainment and it's pretty easy to get around. The weather is usually gorgeous! My roses bloomed 10 months out of the year when I lived there. It is also a very diverse population, which we loved, and Bay Areans tend to be pretty open-minded. At least compared to Reno.

The traffic, however, is horrible. I have even been stuck in traffic at 8:00 at night! The people are not as friendly as they are in a smaller town and the cost of living is higher than many areas (although housing is cheaper now than it has been in ages). For example a permit to remodel cost us a little over a hundred dollars here in Reno but was almost two thousand in San Jose. But in San Jose our plan was looked at the same day and after changes were corrected and we brought them back in they were approved then and there. In Reno they wouldn't even look at our plans for several weeks and when they needed changes it was several more weeks (and several phone calls) before they were approved. It is cheaper in San Jose than it is in a lot of the Bay Area. Some areas are noisy though and, of course, there are parts of San Jose (like every city) that I wouldn't live in but all in all San Jose is a great place to live!

Hi Crazyannfan5!

I think you are referring to my Splash Marans young adults. They are 15 weeks old. The cockerel just started mating with my older hens last week, and is a gentleman with them thus far. I hope to have fertile eggs available by August , if you are interested!

Best,
Dawn

Dawn, Joe is a hunk! I definitely want my name on that list for eggs from your trio.

The eggs the came from are spectacular, especially for Splash birds. When do you think your girls are going to lay?

You are at the top of the list, silly!

Who knows about the laying?? I wouldn't have thought my BCM pullet could have started at 18 weeks, but she did! And Joe continues to be very mild mannered, so that is a major plus!! Is Dolly's man going to be Claude??

I'm anxiously awaiting the first eggs from Dolly and her two dark egg laying "sisters", my Wheaten Marans, Frenchie and my Wheaten Penedesenca, Frannie. French and Fran are both about 20 weeks and I haven't even gotten a squat out of them. So I'm not going to be holding my breath for these girls...

I'm really, really excited to get their eggs though. They'll be my first truly dark eggs (hopefully

) so I've been pretty anxious when I've collected eggs from the nesting boxes lately.

Dolly and her sisters will definitely be put with Claude this year, just as soon as they are laying. I really, really want some Splash Olive Eggers, I hatched out one that was with my broody from shipped eggs... I found it dead this afternoon though. I don't know what happened. It was a bit smaller than the other chicks, so I imagine it just couldn't keep up. SO Dolly is the key to hopefully getting a few Splash OEs down the road.

My other girls will be used for my Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Olive Egger project, Luke down in Santa Cruz and I are going to partner on this project. I'm going to do the initial cross and then he'll take those offspring back to dark egg laying roosters, as he has both a Wheaten Penedesenca roo and a Wheaten Marans roo.

Most of you know that my best friend is suffering from Cancer. They now have found a blood clot and is on bedrest hoping that it will dissolve instead of going to her brain or heart. I've been with her most of the time.

I really need my friends help on this thread. She has a wonderful, sweet, sweet sweet lovable chocolate labrador that she just can't take care of anymore. I already have 2 labs and can't take him. If anyone knows of a loving caring family that can take him for free, please let me know.

Max was a rescue and came to live with Sharon 3 years ago. We estimate his age to be about 6 years, he has just recently had all of his shots. He seems a bit lean to me but with a family that can take care of him properly, I'm sure he'll fatten up in no time!

Max is really the sweetest dog. He loves being with people. Very sweet with kids of all ages. Just a gentle soul. We are looking for a new home ASAP. Here are some pictures of Max and the coop/run that I built at her house. I'm taking care of the chickens daily, they really bring Sharon so much joy.
