I dang near got driven off the rural highway on my way home! There are a lot of drop offs to one or another side of the road (mountain roads) and I fought the wind the whole way. When I passed a wind break of some sort, the car would swerve into the opposite lane because I was constantly pulling the steering wheel against the force of the wind. Branches skittered across the road here and there. Leaves were in the air EVERYwhere.

Scary Wind

All battened down here, as much as I can. So far everyone is fine, if a bit shaken. I looked out around 4 and saw pullets being "assisted" across the yard by the wind. They all went to bed early.
Sounds like it might be over by Friday night

Staying home (and hoping busses, trucks, and Winnebagos have the sense to do so) for now.

I'm glad everybody and their coops are ok. Sorry about the planter and trees.

Eucalyptus can be dangerous for limb drop, even without wind. Gryeyes, scary story. That's one of the reasons I drive a pickup. I wonder how the chickens are staying put and not blowing away?!

We raised an angus bull calf when I was young and I still remember (vegens, cover your eyes) how delicious he was! He was also forever getting out and terrorizing the neighbors. They didn't know how gentle he was but I bet these guys wouldn't be nearly as hard to handle.

Oh gosh, you two bring back memories.............. My son was allergic to cow's milk so when I weaned him to go back to work I bought a milking goat. She gave more milk than I needed so I bought an Angus bull calf to raise on her milk. What a pleasure................The calf was beautiful & never once scoured on the goats milk & his coat was so shiny & sleek. It was apleasure raising him unlike many of the Holstiens I had bottle raised in the past.
My chickens are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more work that I need already but it is sure nice having experienced all the animal pleasures through my life. You go girls......LOL

We loved raising Toro too. He was such a love! When my parents had him processed I refused to eat dinner for two weeks, horrified that they expected me to eat him. Then my Mom broke out the steaks... No way I could resist the smell of those steaks sizzling away. And yes... Toro was delicious!!!

A friend of mine had a predator get into her chicken coop and kill 4 chickens. They are hot wiring the coop now.

She is looking for an Australorp and a Speckled Sussex pullet. She lives in Redwood City and Mt. Aukum, and will be attending the shows in Hollister & Stockton. Does anyone in those areas have those breeds?
