California - Northern

I have a hard time with the white eggs because they get stained so quickly! I pick up eggs everyday but just a little bit of poo or dirt on them stains them. When I saw the post that someone wanted white egg layers I thought "why?".

But I do love the Austra White! Especially with the splash of black in there.

Hi Jennifer,

If you would like fertile bantam eggs I am happy to give you a few dozen - they would not be purebreds, but I have a seperate pen for mixed bantam cochins and one for mixed non-cochin bantams. I am getting at least one dozen per day from the combined pens and could save eggs for the next few days for you. I am in Orinda, so not too far. Send me a PM if you are interested and we can work out logistics.

Best,
Dyann

Hi All,

I live in Danville and need a dozen or so fertile eggs to hatch for my son's Kindergarten class! Does anybody in the area have some that I can pick up? I'm happy to buy them from you. I can travel too. Oakland, WC, Livermore, etc... Any breeds or mixed breeds are fine! They will be turned over to me after they hatch so I can care for them and then add them to my flock. Let me know!

Thanks!

Jennifer in Danville

The tickets for the Tour de Cluck chicken coop tour in Davis on May 26 are on sale now! Here is a link where you can buy them. Kids under 11 are free! Yeah! They sell out of tickets very quickly so if you are planning on going, get them now! We missed out last year and I'm determined to go this year! Anyone want to join me???

There is someone in Covelo and several in Clear Lake. I don't know how many from the north coast subscribe to this list. There were a couple last year, but I have not seen a post from them in a while. Some near Arcata/Eureka/Crescent City may subscribe to the Oregon Thread.

Be careful of the all caps--Some think you are shouting at them when they see all caps. Me, I think you are just excited to get chickens. Last year I had 6 hens, the limit for my town. Then I had 11. Later I thought it would be fun to hatch some. Now I have 44 of the little guys running arround the place. I need to move a bunch of the out.

Oh, and I now subscribe to the Incubators Anonymous thread.....

Let us know what you will be getting. If you want something of mine let me know. I have FBC Marans that are three weeks old and will be ready to go outside in three more weeks. These are Wade Jean and Cottage Farms(Name may be wrong). I think I can tell the Boys from the girls now. I have Partridge Rocks--two pullets and three cockerels From Murray McMurray. They are 10 weeks and 9 weeks old(had a replacement shipment the next week from the first)and are outside, so you would not need to brood them.. The EO Marraduna Basque Hens are already spoken for.

I am currently hatching Dick Horstman SQ Partridge Rocks and his single comb RIRs. I might have some near SQ Dorkings in 22 days(If Kim Consul does not want them). In May, I will be hatching a different line of Heritage RIR's too. I hope to be hatching my own Cream Legbars and EO Basque in the Fall.

It's good to have you here!

Ron

Hi, frickn - welcome! You've got chicken friends all around you.

I'm in Hopland, & cashdl is in Willits. Several of us are over in Lake County too.

Wow - I see you're actually starting at the BEGINNING, building the coop BEFORE getting the chicks. Not me. I got the chickies first, then frantically put together the coop & run. Always starting my projects in the middle...

What kind of chicks are you getting?

Well, to begin with.... thank you for the reply!! How exciting to be part of such a HUGE community that has everything to do with our
feathered friends! We have decided on several different breeds because they all cost the same amount to feed and house, but we
wanted to have a variety of colors and personalities. We love animals of all kinds, and the chic's will become new members of
our family! Okay, I rambled on. We are getting Spangled Russian Orloff, Barred Plymouth Rocks, Rhode Island Reds, Speckled Sussex,
Buff Orpington, Mottled Java, New Hampshire Reds, and last, but not least...... Iowa Blues.
There, are we crazy?????

I apologize for the "all caps". I didn't mean anything bad by it. It is easier for me to see what I am writing...... without my glasses.
Perhaps this habit came from "chatting" with friends in the little box available on Messenger. The text is sooooo small. But, yes, we are excited
about getting our chicks! My husband had lived on a working ranch in Spain & France with over 200 chickens, so I am relying on his
experiences for beginning our little flock.

Oh yes I understand needing to make the text bigger to see it. I need more help every year.

You can make the font larger by using the options bar at the top of the reply window. You can change the color and add emoticons and etc.

That will be a beautiful mix of birds!
I don't think I've seen the Spangled Russian Orloff - I'll have to google that one. i love patterned birds.
