California - Northern

My husband was pretty taken aback when I ordered 8 females from Metzers after we had just bought 12 straight run from a feed store. It's a good thing I did because after all those 12 (3 died) and we are left with 3 ladies and 6 drakes. 3 dudes are getting re-homed. I think if I spring 4 chickens on him right now he'd just die. I am a pull-the-bandaide off all at once kinda girl. He's more of a let it soak in the water and pull off a little bit at a time kinda guy.I appreciate him though. We keep each other balanced! Or I might be an animal hoarder or something! :p
Thats a lot of ducks!

Don't tell him about chicken math then. I started with 7 and now am over 30 chickens. (actually not sure exactly how many I have at the moment) Plus 14 eggs under a broody and turkeys on order for sometime late this spring. Oh, and I started last week with bees too. Luckily for me, my DH never goes in the coops, so he has no idea how many birds we have.

(he doesn't care either because I take care of them)

Welcome Zoo & Meg. I am always happy to have new people join in the fun.
I live in Turlock & think of my summers as hot but I see Zoo lives in the Shasta area & I camped at shasta Lake once many many years ago & thought I was going to die in the heat getting there. I run sprinklers on the roof for my chickens even here during the hot spell & I have lotsa shade.
Hope you both enjoy the experience as much as I have.

Hi To All

There is someone in Oregon looking for Heritage RIRs. I don't know of anyone locally raising them, so if any or you raise them or know of someone who does, let me know and I will pass the information on. The person said he would travel to CA to get them.

Hi Northern CA Chicken people :) I am new. My chicks just arrived on Wed. My uncle came by to visit them and now would like to buy some Pullets. He already has a flock of Barred Rocks and RIR but would like to add 3-5 new girls...any egg laying variety...to the mix. If you know of any please share. Thanks

Hi! how is everyone?

I am fine and happy it is Friday!

I am taking a quick break to check BYC and then it is time to move my two roosters that crow to the garage.

These guys don't crow yet:

This guy goes with me to get food and water:
