Ok, I know it's kinda gross, but

one of my cats killed a mouse, and then one of my duck swallowed it whole

I am thinking he is my keeper. I named him Samson. If he magically starts laying eggs- then it will be Samantha. But 'he' seriously is looking very roo-ish. What do you think?


Look at Samsom's comb already starting to look floppy. I swear it's like Pinnochios nose- everyday it gets bigger.

I swear after looking at pictures of roosters and seeing the way my chicks start standing...I wonder if the term "he looks cocky" or other type comments didn't come from watching roosters and they way they stand and present themselves. Roosters can be such gorgeous birds. A bummer you can't keep a whole bunch of them.

I probably have 50+ roosters right now (not counting small chicks). There will be three less after this morning, water's heating right now.

Be careful with the sharp knives!

Kim(CapayValleyChick), Paul and I processed 7 yesterday and I don't even have a bandage today

It's nice to have three less to feed. I guess they will be feeding me now.

I have 12 coop/runs, the freezer growout which is fully enclosed walls and ceiling with wire and a roof overhang for shade/weather protection. Then there is the indoor shed brooder area and four more brooders in the workshop. One small temporary brooder in the spare room with the three incubators. Dang, there are chickens everywhere (and a turkey and a few quail).

Okay!....I know this is a "California" thread but I was born and bred in Tracy, Calif in the middle of the San Joaquin Valley

, so I think I might have a small "In" here. You guys know where it is!...Right in "Northern Southern, "Southern" Northern "Central" California!...lol

Anyway, I'm now living in Washington State near Seattle and my wifey and I'd like to grow some live Mealworms and I know there's some information about it here but WHO do any of you guys and gals that raise your own mealworms buy from??? I'm always a little "chicken" (pardon the pun ) to order online from a strange website! Can any of you help us with a good safe place to buy them??.. Thanks in advance!
