Have any of you used Vetericyn? I got some to use on a pullet with an injured eye. She got pecked in the eye, and it got infected. 
I've been using the vetericyn for a couple of days (spraying it directly in the eye), and it's getting a lot better.
It's hella expensive, though. $30 for a 16-oz bottle. At least it goes a long way.

We also use it quite a bit around the horse barn. (I must admit to poaching a lot in Dad's vet meds cabinet )

Yep I have it and use it- chickens, ducks and geese. Oh and my cats and dog too. And all our lizards!

Hi Northern CA people!

I am driving from Woodland to Shingletown(close to Lake Mcumber) on Saturday. I am meeting Mike at the feed store at the corner of Deschutes and Dersche Roads. He is giving my Dorking AM Cockerel a new home!

I also have 3 EO Marraduna Basque Cockerels, 1 EO Marraduna Basqe Pullet and 2 FBCM Cockerels. If you want to meet me somewhere on the way and are interested in any of these chickens, send me a pm. If you live close to Woodland and you are interested, send a PM Too!

Here are some pictures:

The one in the back is one of the two Marans Cockerels. They are 13 weeks old. Friendly and nice looking.



This one has the Marans hiding, but is a nice picture of the Dorking AM Pullet and the mystery SG Dorking pullet. The one on the left has questionable genetics, but looks like an SG Dorking. The SG Dorking AM Cross has 5 toes and green feet!

Do eggs carry disease? Is it safer to buy hatching eggs than chicks or chickens from other people? Or do they also carry disease? (sorry for dumb question)

Ha , have to laugh about the Canada thing, they come here all the time.
Getting to the point of my post~

PLEASE look at this and make a comment as I have done and correct the author that has grouped all of us humane poultry farmers into a group of sadistic hateful battery breeders.
She says Stop eating even free range, well I sell free range eggs and my birds are NOT battery bred, or raised, or on additives, forced moults, debeaked or on antibiotics.
She is globbing us together with the nasty commercial industries, and she needs to clarify !

Yes, there are some diseases that can be spread by the egg. There are not as many and you would know they had something before you moved them in with your older chickens, unless you used a broody for them.

I have not heard about this happening much however.

Maybe it's because I grew up with it, but to me there is a range of manure smells that go from bad to worse. None are good lOL.

Worst is swine
least bad is rabbit

Chicken is ok, but the early morning ones are the worst. I hear that Broody poo is terrible though..

After all of this poo talk, I think I will think about roses and sweet smelling things. Is there anything like the smell of baking bread?

Thank you Ron!
I have read thru the mealworm thread here now & then, & after inquiring about protein & feed, I think this will be my best option.
(The kitten food I buy is just as expensive as the chick feed lol.)
The flock has been free ranged on 25 acres for the past 3 years but are now in a couple yards until I finish fencing the new bee garden.
Hopefully by Autumn they will be back in the woods.
