Does anyone know who carries these pens? I can do an internet search, but of course it's easier if someone already knows who sells them.

ETA - I was looking at them when we were at The Omelet Ranch, but I didn't think to ask about them at the time. I suddenly find myself in a position I could use something like this.

Thanks,
Deb

Quote: Laura they look so happy! and you've done a great job of introducing them so far!!

thanks! i hope that they settle in quickly -- one is a tiny bit bigger than the other, and she looks like she might give the bossy marans a run for their money -- will be interesting to watch the pecking order shift with the new arrivals. thinking of calling them Frances and Bella.

and so sorry to read of your candling/incubator error! hoping that they didn't get too chilled...

awake too early this morning,

They'll still hatch Cheryl. Heat at the end of incubation isn't as critical. I had a broody off her eggs for an entire night (long story) and she still hatched babies.

Their curiosity and personal appearance tells us that you've been taking care of them well. Adorable!

My new additions! Sweetgrass turkeys! I'm so darn excited - I've been wanting to try them out before I go and build a whole coop for them.

I'm in a bit of... confusion I could say.

My Jersey Giant hen is molting. But is broody also. To top it off she's LAYING everyday too!

There was extremely loud "Dub-step" next door, earlier in April/May.

Also, my broody is molting and is raising chicks.

The broodies mom is molting and is laying.

All the roo's have already been molting. I heard it's the sign of a good diet. Last year they started molting in September (which wasn't good because I had a fair that month).

Well confession time...I'm so crazy busy this week. I candled eggs before I was supposed to lock them down yesterday. Instead of putting them back in the bator. I left the tray inside the closet (where I candle!!)

So they were coldish when I discovered my mistake. I quickly put them in the bator but who knows now if any will hatch!! 22 partridge brahma eggs and langshan eggs

Cheryl you may be ok!

I did some research that says the closer to hatch the lower the temperature can be. Some even hatch at three degrees lower and claim that they hatch better at the lower temperature.

There is hope!

and the only problem with this pen, apparently, is that the pullets can get out of it somehow -- i just went down to the coop to check on everybody, and both of the new silver-pencileds are OUTside of their exclusion pen, pecking around and chasing the other birds. i'd set it up in a spot where a perch (an oak branch) was right above the top, so it couldn't be opened that way -- suppose they wriggled under it somehow?

so much for keeping them separate for a few days! the new ones are very clearly asserting themselves at the top of the pecking order, but mostly just chasing, the others all run away... hopefully they'll settle down soon.

and if i use the pen in the future, i'll have to figure out a way to stake it to the ground like a tent, or something? has anyone had chicks/chickens escape from this kind of pen before, and/or found a good solution?
