I hope I didn't miss anything.
Ah, there's always chicken TV right? Powered by scratch and grains.i too had a busy weekend and can't keep up with everything here! (and no tv reception, so no olympics, even!)
only chicken news here is my little flock keeps growing, they are at approx. nine weeks -- the two silver pencils chase all the others mercilessly, but the two cuckoo marans have discovered that they can fly better than the pencils -- so they take refuse on a high roost in the run, or, if i'm around, on my shoulder. given how crazily skittish they were when i first got them, i find this solution rather amusing.
Amy, much sympathy for the loss of your dog, i've gone through similar with my cats -- and hope you can find a new addition to your family soon!
best,
laura
Copper one of my cockerels. He is 8 weeks old. I found him acting very low last night. Trying to sleep a lot- seems incredibly sleepy. My mil said he was acting low yesterday morning (why she didn't TELL ME I will never know geez) and I had my oldest change their water yesterday (I usually do) and he also did not report anything amiss. Note to self- do it myself.
I fed them last night (nightly treats- shredded meat or lettuce or fruit leftover from that supper we had). I didn't notice at first that he wasn't eating the treats. Then as soon as I noticed I ran in, snatched him up and carried him up to the house. He was still trying to sleep on me. Since my new EEs are in the house- I didn't come inside just stayed outside with him. My BCM cockerels starting choking out crows around 4-5 weeks. Hilarious. But now only one of them does- I assume the top cock doesn't let the others crow? Because only my Samson does now.Hey everyone, sorry I was gone. Anybody else been watching the Olympics?![]()
Anyways, my month and a half old BBR OEGB chick is crowing. It's hilarious! "E-E-eeeeee"![]()
Grr and I saw the bobcat the other day... watching a couple feet from behind the fence. Poor chickens couldn't go outside on a nice day.
I hope I didn't miss anything.
Thank you so much! I did find a pup - but my husband is having a hard time with the 'get a new pup' idea. The one I found is in Modesto at a rescue place- looks like a fawn dobe and weimerimer mix. (sp?) So my fingers are crossed- I am afraid someone else will snatch it up. It's quite a drive for us but it's impossible to find a doberman pup- even a mixed one that is affordable.David and Wendy - Congrats on the new layer! And it's so cool everyone could help you figure out what kind they are!
Amy Beth - I think it's absolutely fine that you are ready to look for a new dog so soon. You shouldn't feel guilty at all! Some people wait too long and then never get a dog again because they don't want to go through another death. I'll let you know if I hear of a puppy like the kind you're looking for. Good luck searching!
Ron - Thank you sooooo much for hatching the chicks for us! You did such an amazing job and we are so lucky to know you. You are a blessing!! The one that was hatching up-side down died a few hours ago. Poor little guy. The other special needs chick is alive and doing ok.. about the same as when I picked them up from you. I haven't had a chance to take pictures but I will take some and post soon. All I can say is: THEY'RE GORGEOUS!!!!!!!
Zooweemama,
I wanted to tell you how very sorry I am for your loss. A few years ago, I lost my dog of 18 years. It was one of the hardest time off my life. My heart breaks for you and your family.....hang in there..
LOL I still have not put something on the top. Amazingly I have found no poo in the feeder. I need to get something on there. Chickens are funny!haha! One of my scrawny hens does that also!
