Blackberry curd would be great on pancakes.

Think of curd as similar to lemon pie, only slighty looser and more spreadable, not quite so jelled.

I've been hooked lately on spiced pear butter on buttermilk pancakes. Yum!

Maybe I should eat breakfast first and then do BYC!

The Meteorologist on the morning news said we are starting the longest 100 plus streak since 2009. I have my misters set to come on at 1 pm today.

I hope the chickens are OK this week and weekend.

My poor suspect pullet escaped from her pen today. It was easy to get her back in--I didn't have to send the dog after her.

After she foraged for a while I opened the door and she walked back in.

I did take a picture. Problem is, I do not know if she is pure SG Dorking or a mix. She really is pretty and looks suspiciously ready to lay an egg:

She has the eye of my (non-quality!) Red Dorking.

Quote: I guess it is getting to be late in the season for hatching eggs.

Your Creles look better all the time. Let me know when yours are ready.

So...ducks are creepy. I knew they had been mating- my 10 yo informed me and looking a little disturbed over the fact since he watched his favorite duck being mauled and half drowned. Poor guy lol.

Last night we were watching the ducks on the pond and we saw our male Pekin mate 5 females in the span of 15 minutes. He is big- he weighs about 9/10 pounds and the ducks are under water almost the entire time. And duck matings are forceful encounters. (read up on it. scary lol! they are nothing like chickens. a duck mating a chicken hen will kill her.) I am starting to think that our male Pekin is beginning to look a lot like dinner. We have 2 other males and they are not that crazed. At all. I hope after a few weeks of this I don't find a bunch of scabby backs and bald heads or he is getting roasted.

Roosters aren't this bad are they?

Generally no. But every once in a while a bad one slips in - then you have chicken dinner. Mine have always been great with the hens/babies, but I did have 1 rooster that only attacked me. He had a knack for breaking blood vessels in my legs (softball sized horrible bruises). He was fine with my DH, my kids and strangers - but it was game on for me. Needless to say I got tired of watching my back and looking like I got run over by a truck.

That's good to hear. I was under the impression from my research that roosters woo generally. Drakes don't. The force themselves on whatever duck they want, whenever. I don't 'need' drakes so if they prove to be too aggressive- they are out of here. At least roosters look after their harem. I don't see much looking after with the drakes in regards to the ducks.
