Does anyone know what this might be? It's only this pullet and only on one side.

Hi Everyone (see my previous post)

Would you or maybe a neighbor be interested in our boy? The wife has been crying, the daughter has been crying at the thought of him being euthanized if we can't give him away to a good family. This is killing me, I can't take the crying. I have an add on craigslist and I'm waiting. There are quite a few cockerels for sale or free. This particular breed is very popular for cock fights and we would sure hate to see this happen to him. I will deliver anywhere in the state.

Thanks

First, the pullet, it looks like dirt or a minor owwy. I wouldn't be concerned yet, just keep an eye on it.

Samson, of course that is a single comb. He's still too young to tell what his comb is going to do, other than he has too many points. This is the standard for Marans, male comb.

"Single, moderately large, straight, upright, evenly serrated with five points: the blade not touching the neck."

You'll have to wait until it finishes developing. Too many points isn't a huge deal, in judging that's only 1/2 to 1 point off per point. I do think he should be showing more color in his neck/hackles.

Thanks Deb! Ok so 5 points. I should see how Copper is looking. Copper has a lot of Copper on him. But I do have 6 other cockerels that are younger to grow out yet too. :D

Single comb. The US SOP calls for 5 points. Some European say 5 to 6 points.

The comb is straight so far and I do not see side sprigs(that is where the comb grows out extra parts at the side or base). So far a points off but not a DQ.

The Pullet looks like someone was interested in the little wattles growing out.

Hi Everyone!! I haven't been on here for a couple days and have missed the thread (and all of you guys!) We decided to take a week vacation beginning Friday morning and have been scrambling to figure everything out. We also found a coop space to rent and, because our rooster Chema has decided to crow like a mad man, we are moving all of the big chickens there before we leave.

The baby chicks are doing great. They're such hardy and happy little guys! I'm going to try to take pictures tomorrow before we give them to the sitter. I'm going to miss watching them change every day! I swear we pick the worst times to go away! Lol

I'm going to catch up on the thread soon.. Just wanted to say hi!
