That is my understanding. You can't sell them, but you can't sell eggs if you give them any medicine at all.

It is longer actually, since you have to retreat after 10 days. It would be 24 days of no eggs. If you use something with a withdrawl, it would be a good idea to stock pile eggs. Store eggs are yucky!

I eat the eggs during Ivermectin treatment--been doing it for two years now. I still only have two eyes.....(remember the fish on the Simpson's):gig

Thank you so much for your help

Hi Everyone!! I haven't been on here for a couple days and have missed the thread (and all of you guys!) We decided to take a week vacation beginning Friday morning and have been scrambling to figure everything out. We also found a coop space to rent and, because our rooster Chema has decided to crow like a mad man, we are moving all of the big chickens there before we leave.
The baby chicks are doing great. They're such hardy and happy little guys! I'm going to try to take pictures tomorrow before we give them to the sitter. I'm going to miss watching them change every day! I swear we pick the worst times to go away! Lol
I'm going to catch up on the thread soon.. Just wanted to say hi!
Enjoy your vacation..

If you store eggs in that cardboard (??) carton it can take moisture out of the eggs faster than plastic cartons. In my experience that is...

Quote: A person at work scrambled and dehydrated two dozen eggs. She asked me to run them through my grinder. They turned into a powder that will store on a shelf for several years. The eggs can be used for baking or you can rehydreate them and make scrambled eggs out of them.

Since I bake a bunch, this would be a great way to store eggs. When I get way too many eggs I might do this myself.

Mental note!

Does anyone on this thread breed (or know of someone that breeds) Quail d'Anvers? I know where to get black or lavenders, but prefer the quail color and patterning. I want to get fertile eggs for incubating next month. I've contacted 2 people and never heard back from either.

Better yet, I would love to buy quail d'Anver pullets. Even though they are tiny, they still probably crow........

Hi Everyone (see my previous post)

Would you or maybe a neighbor be interested in our boy? The wife has been crying, the daughter has been crying at the thought of him being euthanized if we can't give him away to a good family. This is killing me, I can't take the crying. I have an add on craigslist and I'm waiting. There are quite a few cockerels for sale or free. This particular breed is very popular for cock fights and we would sure hate to see this happen to him. I will deliver anywhere in the state.

Thanks

Sorry your having no luck :(. I cant keep him, but if you cant find a home and cant do anything yourself, we can try and help you euth him. Its not a lot of help, but its better then trying to do it yourself with a whole bunch of unhappy people around.

Mine just go back to my hard working girls. I boiled three dozen for them a couple of days ago and am already back up to 10 dozen on hand. A couple of days ago my girls hit a new record, 24 eggs in one day!

Well shoot, I have an empty shell but no chick. When I put the chickens away last night I thought I heard peeping under one of the broodies. This morning when I was doing my chickens chores, mom usually takes her break running around the yard growling at everyone and I see part of a shell hanging off her chest so I go back to the nest and sure enough I find the remnants of a healthy hatched egg! She's in our hay barn so there's lots of places for the chick to go but they don't wander from mom at this age and I didn't find anything, no corpse, nothing. There other night when I went to put them away a racoon came up from the area she's in. The racoons usually get into the cat food (you wouldn't believe what they can learn to open) but I think they got the chick.

The wine bar is open late tonight (8pm, late for us) so I'll have to somehow make her safe when I get home tonight. The spot she's in is a stall with pine on the bottom and the bars on top but it's open above wall height to the vaulted roof, so the racoons are climbing the wall! I'm using my usual dog fencing for one of the other broodies....but she's safe in her coop. Just using the fencing so the other girls would stop adding eggs to her nest, maybe I'll have to take that and protect this girls chicks.
