Zooweemama, I was about to tell you the same thing as Ron! I've hatched some Trader Joe leghorns out before, but they were all roosters. I really wanted them for their big, white eggs also. Recently someone told me that Leghorns are very flighty and unfriendly though (which is why they probably make good caged "commercial" layers.
Oh roos?? Scary! Too many males of any kind (ducks or chickens) stress me out. LOL

My first set of roosters are coming up to 16 weeks old- is it about time to process or wait until 18 weeks. They just don't seem too...meaty...LOL

Happy Dance for you Jeff... Jubilee egg...YES!
I'm in the same boat as you Jeff.. I have all these amazing breeds. I keep telling myself, "focus." I'm not doing so well.
I love them all..... I was trying to decide who must go... So far, no one. I guess I need more breeding coops..

Yikes!

I know, it's so hard right! I mean I have 23 pens. seriously dude, give something up. I was just trying to figure how to turn my next coop into an experiment pen that would have 8 3x5 foot "pens" that I could stick pairs in that I want to experiment with certain combinations. still have to build my layer coop, like ASAP as I'm starting to cull from my breeding pens and have no where to put the culls! Aargh. finances are tight now so that is helping me be a bit more motivated to sell some stuff. well see how the weekend goes. My plan is to post at least 4-5 pairs, trios or quads on CL. will see...can i really let go?!

Quote: yes, those are still on the keep list. gonna keep them til spring and probably for sure keep them as part of my breeders. i just got way set back by those predator losses so it'll be a while before I"m producing much. I'm sure down the road in a few months i may have a hen for you. Did you end up getting a female from one of the two i sold you?

I went in to Fed Ex on Churn Creek to ask about shipping hatching eggs. They said they couldn't do that but that they could ship dead things and he gave the example of someone wanting to do taxidermy! so, i'm guessing they are ok with your dead chicken, just don't send any fertilized eggs because they are "live". however, I know Cheryl ships eggs via Fed Ex so I am wondering if she doesn't tell them or if she has a special deal with them... hmmm gonna have to ask.

The MF's are very very pretty to look at AND they sure would blend in better than a white chicken for sure! If they are great layers with good feed conversion I am game for a pretty chicken.

from cheryl's website: www.theomeletranch.com

nevermind, it wouldn't let me copy, but says they lay 300 eggs per year. they are definitely not as flighty as other leghorns. once they start laying again after being moved, usually takes a week or so, i'll let you know what i find. they are definitely pretty!

not sure when I will start having any chicks but hopefully they will start laying again soon. and I really just have a pair that will work for the MF coloring. one of the pullets is black and white so she'll just go to my layer pen. I know that shannon put a few eggs in the incubator before selling to me and they made it to lockdown
