Lol I definitely understand where your coming from.
For me its different. I am thinking about things from a business aspect as well not just from a hobbyists aspect.
My plan soon is to start a few different business with chickens, and quality is the only thing that matters.
I have hatchery chickens though. A flock of barred rocks and my Cornish x I buy from cackle.
Qndlso I'm just fascinated by rare things period. Having something exclusive. That not everyone has or CAN get. I've been like that since I was a kid. From the clothes and shoes I wear. Cars I like. Cigars I smoke.
Just being unique. That's what I like.
LOL. yeah, I know what you mean. I'm getting a nice mix of breeds, mostly for laying, but I've chosen all dual-purpose breeds so I'll be using my extra roos for meat I've looked at chicks Greenfire farms has and WOHOOO! They sure have some pretty chickens! If I were to buy some of their chicks I'd be torn between the Jubilee Orps and the Partridge Barthuner. Still, so PRICEY!!

And changing my mind a few minutes later as I check out the breeds yet to be released....I may need to add the Bielefelder to my list ....... if only because in addition to chickens I am also a rabid Anime fan.......and if you're curious about why there's a connection....there is an anime by the name of Kyo Kara Maoh! in which one of the main character's family name was Bielefeld, lol!

Yea it definitely wasn't easy. Especially when I was determined to save them. But after learning the long term risks, it was just a WISE decision.
Im getting some pretty rare genetics stocked up so I DO NOT want to risk that.
I hope I win this bid!
The white American Breese chicks on greenfires website sell for $399. Per chick!
So I'm hoping this auction stays around $300. But 7 days left, 14 bidders. It might get a little too much for me at the moment. It could get pretty steep.
I also bid on some chocolate orpington LF project eggs which might be cool!
And I bid on some a pair of jubilee Orps!
I'm trying to get ready for chick season this coming spring. Chocolate Orps are gonna be a BIG hit in 2013
Say what? just wait a year till there 25 or 30

There was a poultry person back in the 1920s or so that said there will always be the next great new chicken breed. EO Basque, Cream Legbars, Isbars, Rhodbars, Jubilee orps...Black Australorps back in the last century. Even Ameraucanas.

The Breese are a great Meat breed but they are a bit like Champagne. They can't be true Breese unless they are raised in one area of France. The breeders are licensed so that $125.00 Capon is something they would not buy from a CA Flock.

Even with all of that, I would love having a Breese flock!

I think Monsterclucker can make some money off of them. The problem is the relatively short time they will be worth the big bucks. Also, try not to get caught into the trap of getting the next great chicken each time they come out. Along with the new ones, try preserving one of the older heritage breeds, like the Heritage RIRs. SG Dorkings need work along with a lot of others. If you had a Heritage flock that had a stable selling price, you could make money off of them without all of the risk.

Good luck with the Auction!

Hi ZooweeMama(Amy Beth(

I just checked my hatch information, and the EEs are are 20 to 21 weeks old. They should be eating layer now and it will be a race to see which breed lays the first egg for you...

It should be soon for the EEs.

No! No! I must not look.....

I have seen that calculator before and I try to avoid it the same way I stay away from rare breed auctions. I am in enough trouble now. I have too many chickens growing out. Tomorrow I will call my last hatch done and disinfect the incubators and put them back into there boxes.

Yea, I know said that before...This time I really really mean it though..........oops I clicked the link to the genetics calculator......

ROFL! You're a riot. A side note ... somehow I also managed to create a black-laced Blue chicken as well!
