I agree with that wholeheartedly! I never wanted someone to provide me with or allow me to have what I want. I still don't. Of course, I was lucky and grew up as an overly-independent cowgirl on a working ranch and had most of my critters already (including the afore-mentioned country boy

) The beloved man I married is a former city boy who has had to learn to live country

and is thriving in it What is that saying about "we grow where we are planted"?
I also love that photo Amy Beth! It is a really sweet shot.
While I am slightly offended by being chastised for my statement - I agree with your sentiment. My husband was not on board with chickens. He said no. Rather than steamrolling him- I asked what his concerns were. The why mattered to me. We talked about them. I did more research and shared with him. Then one day he said- alright let's go ahead and try. By nature he was not a country boy. And we had lived our whole marriage in the city up to the point. 14 years of marriage. Mutual respect and communication eventually resulted into ducks, chickens and geese. We are growing into a new way of life together. Together. And the joy we both feel and the sorrows we both feel as we move along in this journey are shared, rather than on me because he was not on board.

I really love my husband and he is a fine example of what a man should be. I cannot imagine not encouraging my daughters to marry one day if they choose when they have such a wonderful example of a dad and husband to measure up to. They also have family that have not married or married and chosen not to have kids. Their life is in their own hands.

But I thank everyone for their opinions.

I will work on getting pictures for you!
I got some of mine this morning. just need the Wife to download for me later. She is a photographer and edits my pictures so they do not look so bad lol.
I got alot of pic's of my crele rooster Rocky to share. he seems much better. still likes to rest more than normal but eating drinking and roaming with the flock.

Both points well stated.

My husband and I decided to get separate checking accounts years ago. We have been married for 22 years and it works for us. I tend to spend my $ on my chickens and my garden and he spends his $ on his car LOL To each their own. We have a joint account for the family and house expenses.

It makes my skin crawl too when I hear of people (men or women) who are controlled by their spouse. I too have a friend that is micro managed by her DH. He does not let her go out without him. She wanted to come to Tahoe with us (girls trip) and he did not eat for three days until she gave in and did not come. So unhealthy.

My chickens are doing well.
I am ready to add more crele's soon and black penedesenca in a month ( they are adult's)

My Crele are now 6 months and the white emp's 7 so they should start cranking out eggs in a month or so.
They are slow to develop and lay but then lay very well.

That's so sad. My husband would never do that. Besides...he likes food too much. hehe Especially my cookin! My hubs has his own 'savings' and he saves up for guns. That's his thing. I think we should have our own money- we've just never separated it into accounts. Haven't needed to though- we use the antiquated jar lmbo! We prefer to do the cash thing with our money when we save up for things. I have used the phrase: my husband would kill me. Actually what I mean is he'd be really upset. I am sure there are extreme cases of controlling husbands (OR wives- I personally know a lot of these) but I think generally speaking it's a figure of speech and most people do not literally mean that. Men say it all the time...my wife would kill me if I went golfing for a week and left her with the kids. A phrase...

Oh I just get excited to run into other families that have another photographer in them. :D

The Crele begin laying around 8 months or so? Maybe my chickens are right on- I am just so antsy!

Thanks Kim!

She lives in Washington State with her Military husband. He is leaving the Army in February and they plan on moving back here. I will let her know about your Horses!

I have been wondering if you save the fat from your pigs or render them? I am looking for some--supposed to make the best pie crust if you use the fat over the kidneys. I know I am weird
