Wow! That would kill me, I go through at least 50# of feed per day (a combo of All Flock, Starter & Turkey/Gamebird).

Excuse me. I just died. Then came back to life. Only to die again. Holy shmoly! I buy a bag of food for the waterfowl and a bag for the chickens every 2 weeks. I do not know what that equates to- no one is ever made to go hungry but foraging helps I am sure. I cannot even imagine that food bill! $17 a day is more than I spend on a day of all 6 of us eating all day long . hehe!

I was going through about 20 bags every two weeks. I was selling eating eggs so the sales from the eggs covered the feed ($26 per 50#), but just barely. I think selling eating eggs is a real challenge especially when the food jumped from $16 to $26 a bag in a little over a year. Urg..

I finally decided it was not worth all the work to sell eating eggs, so I disburse layer flock (180 birds). I gave most of them to a 15 year old boy who is starting off in the biz. His dad built him a couple mobile coops and now the birds follow their cattle. They have a great life, and I understand his feed bill is reasonable since they get so much out of the pasture.

I am now down to 120 birds in 13 coops and am still trying to figure out a way for them to get their daily greens.
I am amazed at how much space chickens need to forage.

Yeah, the feed store bill far outweighs the food bill for the two of us.

On top of the chickens, there is hay for the sheep/alpacas, dog food for the 3 border collies/1 great dane (only eat Taste of the Wild) and about once a month I buy $80 worth of crickets for the frogs, the rest of them eat homemade cultures fruit flies. The feed store bill runs $750+ per month.

Wow, we have gotten carried away.

My Feed Bill is out of control as well. If anyone finds out a way to buy bulk feed at a discount, I'm in...I have a few hundred birds easy. Not really sure how many...they just keep popping out of the incubator...I want to feed them quality feed at a Reasonable price. Is that possible.:/

Hey Ron I really like the way that feed looks! I know the chooks would love it.

It seems like a lot of us are not getting the quality layer feed we would like our chickens to have.
We really should organize a drop off from cascade in the upcoming months before spring arrives!

I guess the main issue is the "major" bill to actually get the drop off. Realistically its hard for a lot of us to just shovel out a huge amount of money on bulk feed at one time so either we have to take up a collection or one/few people have to buy it and other people would then buy it from them.
Just thinking out loud.....

I only have about 50 chickens (give or take) meaties included. So I am only buying food about once a month. Sometimes longer.
I try to "stretch" my feed as much as possible, so I'm fermenting feed too. That swells a lot of up with water so I'm feeding them less.

But I WILL buy more of this Cascade feed to store to also help out getting this stuff down here for us.
