California - Northern

Gotta love norcal weather this time of year.
so looks like 70's here the next few days by Rain on Thursday and Friday and Saturday a Chance of Rain and Snow here at 2500 ft
At least I won't be coming home to mud. Although I don't relish the idea of selecting and grooming birds for the show in rain, and then trying to keep them clean!

yep. I am getting more White Empordanesa myself and some black penedesenca.
need more pens but still waiting to hear if we got our house...
Buying a shortsale is a headache

ugh, you have my sympathy -- i bought my house as a short sale, and it took NINE MONTHS to finally go through, in June 2011 -- an agonizing process! but it DID eventually go through, so fingers crossed for you...

(so now we are waiting up to a few weeks again. at least it is through the same bank so hopefully it will make it go quicker. however one hand never seems to know what the other hand is doing. all I know is if it goes through I will be building 4 or 5 coops and runs around christmas time at 3400 feet...... Ugh was hoping to be in over a month ago.

the folks i bought from turned out to have a second loan, too -- one from BofA, one from Wells Fargo, and it took them several months to come to an agreement that let things go forward... hang in there!

Congratulations, you are officially an addict! Welcome to the enabler club...:P

Lol I was wondering when I got my enabler membership Lol :D

Looking forward to meeting you too Molly! Can't wait to bring home the new brooders!

I've been waiting all summer for rain, and now I'm kind of dreading it. The grass is going green real tough and I am thankful for that.
I think we are like around 800-1000 ft. Hopefully snow won't get too bad.

Ok, have been off the computer for almost 3 days. Just read 150+ posts! phew. Glad you all have continued in your chicken obsession without me! Sad to see my basques go, but so glad they are still close in case I decide I need some eggs down the road!! Happy basque watching Mike!

Quote: Yes, I am also interested in these RIR and breeding them with some of my rhodebar males, so if you get yourself some extras maybe I can buy a pullet or two from you?? :-)

Happy sunday to all! OH, i got my first blue copper marans egg in like 6 weeks!! i forgot what a dark egg looked like for a while. seems the molting is over and hopefully the eggs will start coming a bit more consistently!!

Welcome Back Jeff!

There are 4 Js. The CLs are doing ok and some are developing. My plan is to quickly(Ha Ha) check this thread, candle the Jubilees and then work on the Doberge cake. I do have the eggs coming to room temperature. Of course taking care of the chooks is in there somewhere too.

My Marans lost her last tail feather so hopefully she will be laying again soon. Ok probably next spring. My Blue layers(I have two of them) are taking a break too, so the eggs are a boring brown now. At least I am still getting some eggs out of them 7 yesterday

The Heritage RIRs are not laying yet. Reports are that they lay like most heritage breeds. Yes, they will look wonderful mixed with Rhodebars.

Bye,

Ron

Hi all,
I want to say hi, I'm Heather and I'm in the Marysville/Grass Valley area. Basically, I'm in awe of the conversation you're having and all the activity that is happening. I have no birds to show, but would love to go to a show sometime. Oh, oh, and I have a friend looking for jubilee orpingtons. I think she prefers chicks, but would hatch. Anyone close to me have these? Cheers!

Welcome to the Northern CA Thread!

I am hatching some Jubilee Orpingtons for Papa Brooder. Miss Molly has them up the from you. I bet you will have as many as you want soon.

Ron

Hatching Update:

Jubilee Orpingtons are: 2 clear 1 blood ring 1 un-decided. Cream Legbars: 2 clears and 4 developing.

All of the others are developing. All the EEs, Favorelles, Silkies, Rhodebars and flower Hens. 30 out of 36 set still going at 8 days.

Edited to add: I removed the blood ring and two clears. Verified by eggtopsy.
