I see Ultra Kibble on Amazon. I wonder if any feed stores carry it? That would be nice.

okay thxOn the Heritage thread someone said to get horse Manure and feed it to the chickens. It is supposed to make the feathers look better for a show.
I can see a lot of problems with that. mixing manure into feed is how we spread Mad Cow Disease.
The color comes from a pigment, which is probably produced by liver enzymes. Increasing the enzymes might make them darker. Probably not protein level.
Quote: They were including animal parts along with the manure. It came from contaminated feed. Prions survive heat and etc. Quite nasty.
Sorry for comparing Soy to Mad Cow disease. I hope to do better now with my posts since I have had my coffee.
Last Summer, Robert the thread starter, Heritage RIR Thread. It is the grains in the manure, but he did say to just throw it out into the yard. He did not say to strain the seeds out. Not much of a difference?
To be fair, there may be a problem with the corn Starch in the Ultra Kibble.
You can have TSC order a 15# bag of Ultra Kibble. I mix it with Wheat, 10 to 1 by weight and give it to them as feed every third time I fill the feeder. Ozbo also sells Ultra Kibble with $4.95 shipping.
Soy will make the chickens look better. It is a Phyto Estorgen and fills them up with hormones. It will burn them out sooner and may cause cancer and other health issue. It is ok to give them sometimes but it should not be give to them 100% of the time.
When you feed wheat- do you feed them whole wheat berries, buy it cracked or crack it yourself? So far I have only found oats for feed or 'scratch' which contains corn. They were including animal parts along with the manure. It came from contaminated feed. Prions survive heat and etc. Quite nasty.

I just have to add this. In 1977 when I was in 4-H we went on a summer trip called See California First. We left from Red Bluff by bus and spent a week traveling and camping along the coast and mountains of CA. One of our stops was at Cal Poly. On the tour, we were shown an experiment they were doing at the time to see how much Manure and Animal products(things like organs and brains) could be optimally mixed into the feed. They had several pens of cows with different ratios feed mixes. The Grad Student that lead the tour was quite proud of this research.
Jump up 25 years or so and I read the headlines about what caused Mad Cow disease. The thought of mixing the feed that way seemed wrong to me even way back in 1977.
When I am around to watch I my chickens out to free range with the horses and they love scratching through dry poop. I always thought they were looking for undigested oats and such. They do love the stuff. On the Heritage thread someone said to get horse Manure and feed it to the chickens. It is supposed to make the feathers look better for a show.

Oh la la Instagram has a new web format. I still cannot get Tapatalk to work with BYC. I have a half dozen other forums I visit and no issues. Only have issues with BYC. I just cannot even see the forums let alone post.
I wanted to show you guys my black pullet. Can you tell me if she looks like the marans/black orp mix or if she looks like a full marans?
http://instagram.com/amymcmaster If you look through like the first 6 photos of my chickens you can see her. She is REALLY big and fluffy like an Orp. She is about 22 weeks old and is almost as full (feathers) as my 32 weekers and bigger (taller and frame size) than her full Buff Orp sisters that are the same age. Even if she is a mix- I have a sweet spot for that girl.
What do you think? Mix? If that is what a pullet mix of Black Orp/Marans looks like- I want some more lol.
