Thank you for this!

Is it hard to enter a chicken into a show? I think it might be fun to enter one of my Buff Orp girls. :D

Happy Chocks,
Are the blue a recognized variety?
I love anything partridge but blue is stunning also.

Not here, but I believe they are in Europe. Here they are a project. Trisha made them, and I believe these babies are 6th generation crossing back to pure barnevelders.

I love blue chickens.

I've only done it in OR & WA and it was not hard. There should be an entry form that you can download or print off. Fill it out send it in with entry fees. Most shows also have a PDF show catalog with specialty meets/show info

The show catalog has the times to coop in the birds, just take them in and put them in their cages. The judges do their thing, most of the judges I've met are really nice people and are so willing to share information as long as they are done with the show. Most put comments on the coop cards.

Not sure how CA does the health certificates. Up here if you enter a bird without a recent health cert. the state vet runs a quick pollurum/typhoid test. Please forgive the spelling. They run this test anytime they can get a good sample from many private flocks together.

The show catalog will also have coop out time-when you can pick up your bird and go home.

Great oppertunity to put faces with names and drool over all the beautiful birds you don't have at home.

oh and did I mention it is cold? No snow on the ground but my son said it snowed a few times today at school.
feels like more is on the way. we shall see.

Jason,

It was cold enough tonight, I just spent the last hour, in the dark, with a rake, dragging the stinking juvies out from under the coop that normally dogpile instead of going into the coop. I usually just let them stay outside and figure they'll stay warm. But some of them are silkies and they got wet today in the rain. I did not want to find a ditzy blond (buff catdance silkie) stiff in the sand in the morning. DH is gone tonight ref'ing, so it was me on my own.

Grrrrrrrrrr, dang chickens! But everyone made it inside.

Yay!! LOL at the mental image of you raking chickens though. sorry! hehe

Quote: The other mental image would have been me beating the dang chickens to death with the rake, that's more what I felt like doing when I got down to the last few.

We should have made the effort to train them to go inside when the weather was warmer and drier. This was NOT fun in the wet and cold and by myself. If I hadn't seen that little buff looking so wet this afternoon, they probably would have still been outside tonight. But once I spotted it, then I had to make the effort.
