California - Northern

I was thinking about you!

First time for me, I have ordered a new Gas Convection Range! Home Depot is having a sale so The GE Adora Stainless Steel will be delivered next Saturday.

I figured if my wife was willing to spend over 500.00 on Prescription Glasses, I could get a new Oven.....Very exciting--I am already making a list of the first things to cook in it. I will probably use the griddle burner the next morning.

Aw thanks - it's nice to be missed.

You are going to have a lot of fun cooking on your new range. I have an excellent foccacia bread recipe.

I love Dillons beach..... Lucky you!!

I was just thinking the same thing on those beautiful quail eggs.. I have never had quail..
I have no willpower ... I'm really thinking I need some of those beautiful eggs for my incubator

It was sooooooooo cold the first day and night. But yesterday was gorgeous. And it was quite interesting waking up to 5 cows grazing right next to our tent. The kids had so much fun sledding down the sand dunes though.

You have seen my signature, right? As my DH says, I'm going to be on the hoarders show for my chicken addiction.

Catching up here. Had a weekend down at Dillon Beach and I'm still trying to thaw out. Brrrrrr, it was cold.

Deb - you are seriously making me want quail now for those beautiful eggs!

One of my favorite areas to camp, but brrrrrrr is right.

I've decided to increase my number of coturnix, they are the sweetest things and the fastest turn around time. But I'm going to get rid of (sell or eat) all the bobwhites. Those guys are NUTS and a struggle to work with them. We spent hours yesterday trying to catch them in the garage. We were moving 14 youngsters from the brooder to the breeder rack and I think 6 escaped during the move. My DH spent hours lieing on the floor digging them out of his workshop shelves. I was in favor of catching them with a hammer

You know I've been going through this kitchen remodel. I hadn't had an oven since Oct 10th and cooking is one of my major pastimes. I've had nothing but a hotplate burner and a microwave. My new range is also a gas/convection, I'm pretty excited about it. But Saturday the electrician was here and installed the electric wall oven. I've always wanted a second oven, now in this remodel I'm going to end up with THREE!

Finally having it caught me off guard completely (still have no sink/counter tops/etc), so I ran out and bought a take and bake pizza, LOL. Last night though, I braised chicken (I have a few of those in the freezer

) and baked cookies (I always freeze some cookie dough every time I make cookies so we can have them fresh anytime). I was so excited to have an oven bake. I might attempt some bread today (I really miss baking bread) and the contractor won't be back underfoot until tomorrow.

THREE OVENS !!!!!

I've got oven envy

We are going down to cabo 11/23, there is a week long food celebration with 5 days of cooking classes! can't wait to learn from the masters! If anyone else wants to come we have a couple of extra bedrooms!

Wow Cheryl, I'd take you up on that one in a heartbeat if I hadn't just gotten back from Cabo last Tuesday, LOL. It's beautiful down there right now, the weather was perfect and VERY few people.

I was just thinking the same thing on those beautiful quail eggs.. I have never had quail..

Molly/Kelly, if you want quail let me know, I can set you up. I'm setting eggs today or tomorrow, but I get about a dozen per day right now.

I know, I'm so excited. When I moved into this house, it had the 1980's original Jenn-Air convection wall oven. I swear, it's the size of a dollhouse Easy Bake oven. I was looking for a second wall oven and found an amazing deal at the Sears Outlet store. It was a return and exactly what I wanted. A large electric convec oven with a micro/convec combo. It was the fanciest one they make, built in computer, etc. It was rejected by the homeowner for a tiny scratch on the trim. Then it sat in the store rejected, because it's black. Not the most popular color, but that is the color I was doing. It originally sold for $3.900, I got it for $1,200

So that gave me a big oven & a small oven and a microwave in one. Then my range, I wasn't going to get convec, since I now have two. The convection oven was on sale and cheaper than buying the same model without. So I now have a third oven. All convection and all beautiful.

I do a lot of competitive cooking (major hobby) and always testing recipes, so I am so excited. In fact when we just got back from Cabo, the immigration officer did a double take with my DH passport and said.................."Have you gained weight?".....................I said, "we got married three years ago and I feed him well". I laughed so hard I couldn't walk, time for a new photo

He always says, I cook all the time and SOMEONE has to eat it.

Yeah that is a bi-product of cooking. In fact I've been taking a break on my fav dishes because I'm dieting, lost 23 so far, many more lbs to go though :(

I've got a head cold today - probably caught when I visited my dad in the hospital - he had pneumonia and now is home and recovering, but I got some of the germies I guess!!

Not really wanting to work so I'm still in my jammies, but saw this new craft/cheese making/knitting etc website on "squawk on the street" (anyone else watch that? Larry loves playing with stocks so he's addicted-it has become the program of the morning) Anyway the website is http://www.craftsy.com I'm already addicted and want to take some of the classes, so maybe today is a "SICK DAY" when I can play "words with friends" and other fun computer stuff...maybe even shopping! :)

I thought you posted the picture again just to tease me about the eggs I will be getting....

I like the way they look. Gotta get going. I need to call Western Pet and Feed in Charmichael to see if they have the King Feed Non-Soy Grower Crumbles in stock.
No, that is me having a brain fart.... I swear.. I often think about doing something for so long I think I did it... This time, I forgot I actually got it done

Now to get my DH to build another coop

Quote: Waiting on the new oven does not stop me from baking. I baked rolls last night. I used a microwave proofing trick that did the first raise in 15 min. I also started wild yeast Baguettes last night that I will bake this afternoon. They will go along with Pressure cooked white beans.
Quote: From researching coops for Quail, you need to make sure there is a privacy place for them. They also should have a "soft" roof because they can fly into a hard roof and hurt their heads. Of course you have to use wire with small squares.

Also, since they are wild you are supposed to keep them in a place where Dogs, cats and other things they see as threats can't walk by. If they get stressed, they will not lay well.

Oh no, Why Do I Know even this much about Quail? I think Quail is in my future....
