I am back from Sacramento and the Feed Store. I picked up 2 bags of Non-Soy Layer pellets. Good News! The Davis Western Pet and Feed is a couple of months from opening. The Sales Clerk said they were down Sheet Rocking yesterday.

The feed was $22.49 per 50# bag.

Pam must be sleep posting...or maybe her cat got a hold of the keyboard????

Kelly, such cute chicks. Congrats!

Molly, that first photo is so great! You should submit it to next year's calendar. I like the bodies on those CL. Some of the nicest that I've seen.
Bwwaaaaahahah I WAS sleeping!

Quote: I have a few speckled sussex chicks (2-3 weeks old) and few young juveniles (10ish weeks old), though I'd have to sort thru my brooders to figure out how many. I also have a breeding pair of light sussex (about 4-5 months old) in your are interested in those. I need to update my webpage to show accurately what I have but am likely to do that this week if you want to check it out. I am taking a break from hatching.... at least 4 weeks so i will be auctioning off any eggs that are laid in the next four weeks, so i won't have any new chicks until the new year. Though I am in Redding, my MIL lives in orangevale and will be coming back after thanksgiving. I could send chicks/chickens with her if you are interested, just PM me if so. Not sure if anyone else has sussex near you. Shannon in vacaville I think still has the penciled plymouth rocks. not sure if anyone else closer has them. I know someone up near redding does but can't recall who and she got her's from either Shannon or Cheryl, the original source. :-)

Fantastic!

Oh, I keep getting the name wrong. It is called Chow Down Farms. I guess you get a full belly from Chowing Down.

hmm, one of my big girls, one of the cuckoo marans, has somehow cut her foot -- doesn't look too serious, but is bleeding, and her sister was already pecking at it (vampire!) -- so i've separated her into the little enclosure-within-the-run, at least for the night so it can stop bleeding -- any other suggestions? she's not fond of being handled, so I'm not sure I *can* do much more... but thought i'd ask?

thanks!

I am so sorry!

Something like this: http://www.arcatapet.com/item.cfm?cat=10856

You could also use not pain reliever anti biotic ointment. Keep it clean and watch for infection. Check the others for Bumble Foot.

Hi, if it is still bleeding you should put Styptic powder on it. You can get it at the drug store. I find blue kote is great for stoping chickens from picking on wounds - it is also an anti-sepic. Also, the purple color throws them off. Wear gloves. This stuff stainds.

If the foot is dirty, you may want to soak it and they put anti-septic on it. Its almost dark so you can wait til she perches and is dopey if she is hard to handle.
