California - Northern

They are so gorgeous!

I hear you on the storm. Our coop hasn't even dried out from the last storm and here we go again. The rain is supposed to come in a few hours and I am up early, unable to sleep. I will be obsessively checking on the chickens.

The ducks are so easy compared to the chickens. They are laying like crazy- 7 to 9 or so eggs a day from them and I have 11 ducks. Pretty good odds. Plus when it rains they think it is awesome and have a blast outside. My poor chickens - lol. The last rain they looked so wet and bedraggled.

rain has been slower to arrive here in Sonoma Co. than had been forecast, but about a half-hour ago it got started more in earnest -- lots more on the way. my cats are looking out the windows with disappointed faces.

hope everyone stays relatively dry through these next few days!

Is anyone going to do the New Years Hatch along?
Not sure how to find the info

I just put 35 quail, 5 serama and 11 silkies into lockdown tomorrow. The rest are in three more waves of staggered hatches.

I hope the rain holds off a little, I need to go into my office for a few hours. The PO just called, I have a package to pickup, EGGS!!!

Foggy here in the mountains. I didn't get to the coop cleaning, but I did add some fresh shavings to keep it dry. My birds are really good about scratching around in it.

With the predator attacks we've had lately, I really didn't want to upset them more than they already are by forcing them outside when they are not comfortable. They are hanging out in the coop most of the day in hiding. Lost 3 pullets to either a bobcat or a hawk (of course the darn thing can't take the 5 extra cockerels, has to take the pullets instead) - thankfully my 2 barnevelder boys that I'm growing out are fine. (phew) I broke down and ordered netting to keep whatever is getting into the run during the day out. It's going to be a pain to install, but should work fine after that.

Did you lose them at night or during the day? I'm so sorry!

I am about ready to head out and check on the chickens here in a minute. So dark outside. I hope my efforts yesterday pay off. I cleaned the coop, fresh bedding, fresh poop board...dug a drainage ditch all around the coop then hubby put something on the roof- some sort of sealant on the metal. *fingers crossed* He also stayed up late into the night pouring concrete and setting poles. He didn't want his holes getting filled with water and mud from the rains. Then out of the house at 530am to do his daily commute to Chico. Yuck! He's awesome.

What are the new eggs coming?
I wish my Isbars would start laying.... I want something new for the hatch along... :P:D

Do you have the info on the hatch along... I'm not the best at BYC..:/

Kelly, are you the one up by Somerset? My friend up there had a predator go right through the netting on top of their coop and took a couple chickens. They had to hot wire the top to keep whatever it was out. So sorry for your losses.

We are lucky here, that we don't flood. I'm still waiting for a break in the rain to go out and do my work.

My husband has been up in Chico since Saturday. He got a roofing job on a huge, tall house. He's been working as fast as possible to get it done before the rain. Got it watertight with paper, but still had some of the roof shingles to put on, today. He was going to finish it today in the rain! The guy thinks he's invincible.

OK rain just started here. I might have to chase the silkies back into their coop. For everyone else they hide under our covered porch and it stays nice and dry. Its the leg bars first storm however so I have to watch that one. If they get too soggy I'll have to drag them out and under better cover. They went stay inside and insist on being up.

And to top it off my **** phone took a dunking. Do to complications with my purse I'm going in with dh after he is t the dentist. Hope they don't fob me off with a lesser phone I love mine.

Miss molly the info is in incubating and hatching chicks. NYD hatch a long.

Everyone stay safe

My hubby is an electrician so he has to be careful working in the rain. He is mostly ag so he worked on a lot of the ranches and farms around here. (rice and nut farms mainly) But they found somewhere to send him today. He is kinda bummed. I know he was hoping to come home early!
