My oprpington chick didnt make it. She was still warm to the touch but she was gone. Starting to get stiff but could still move. Moms like are you sure shes dead...mom they dont put there necks that way when they are alive.

Tell me about it! I just love flushing money down the toilet but lets face it...with our addictions we will keep flushing lol. The flushing happens very rarely. Most of the time its gain.

How are you all planning to keep your Chickens cool this weekend/week? Everybody doing ok so far?

I lost 3 hens in the heat today...hope everyone else is getting along okay.
Anyone affected by the fires/smoke?

Thank you! Unfortunately, we lost one on Sunday. The coop and nests usually don't get hot, but it was hot on Sunday. Our hen died in the nest. I think she was probably straining to lay and got a bit too stressed with the heat. She's a special needs hen with a limp, so it takes extra effort and exertion for her to do just about everything. Sigh. She was an awesome hen.

So sorry. That's amazing that she did so well up to this point.

Sigh. She was an awesome hen.

We lost a 3-yr-old hen a couple weeks ago. It sucks! So sorry for you losing an awesome hen

The fire was scary but our 3 hens were troopers in the heat. We were lucky the smokey fires were blowing away from the house. The heat was bad enough and if there was smoke too it would've been bad. I would've taken the hens to a park or somewhere without smoke but we got lucky to be able to stay home. I just felt bad for the canyon residents that had to be evacuated with their livestock and pets.

TY! We got lucky in that the fire and smoke was getting blown away from us. Felt sorry for the canyon residents with livestock/pets that had to be evacuated though. Transmission lines were in real danger. I couldn't sleep and stayed up all night.
