I agree! I had a really sweet EE who would follow me all over the place really sweet girl! I think bantam cochins are my favorite breed. I know they don't lay very big eggs, but they are funny, sweet, and very good moms!

Maybe her just maturing, growing out of that cute little chick stage? Very rude Legs

My mother in laws new hampshire does the same thing to the little English banties.. I told her should should seperate them, but she thinks they are just playing. Poor things. My husband finally built an extra coop and we moved them ourselves! I don't know much about the New Hamps, never had much of an interest in the egg layers/ meat producers.

Yeah, I got my EEs from my local feed store, and the eggs were greenish. NO PINKS! lol

Well the Ameraucanas, Jap roo, and the Golden Cuckoo went to a good home today! They get to live close to the coast where it's nice and cool!

Hurray for their new home! I'm so glad someone realized their good qualities.

Had a NHR years ago gifted to me by a neighbor who also built her a little 3x3 coop with perch. She free-ranged our yard and vegetable garden alone and always layed her egg under the bush by the back door where she dug herself a little nest hole. Guess that's what they do in the natural wild. She was a sweet people friendly breed but since we didn't have her in a flock I have no idea how she'd behave in a mix - any dual purpose heavy breed really should not be mixed with any bantams or gentle breeds like EEs or Polish.

All your fowl have new homes and you can concentrate on your move!

She sounded sweet :) We had to stop letting our birds free range in the other part of the property because something big and mean was picking them off ):
With their own size and same kind of temperment right?
My neighbor is doing it right! She built some nice long run coops completely covered! One pen for Juveniles, another for Silkies and cochins, one for the Tolbunts, and the last coop she built for my/her Turkeys lol :)
I have Two Bantam Cochins left that I think the woman I rehomed my Standard Gold Laced Cochins to will adopt them! :D
Moving is such a pain!

How do Bantam Cochins mix with LF Cochins? They're the same gentle breed but I get so nervous mixing LF w/bantams. But still it's a home for some beautiful birds you have.

I don't know your neighbor but I love her already for the care she's taking in separating the breeds!

What takes you to Oregon that the birds had to be re-homed? Not weather-friendly for the breeds you had?

Take a deep breath and good luck to you!

Looking for different kinds of quails

Do you mean quail colored chickens or the actual little quail birds? If it's the little quail birds Pet Palace in Covina has them and you might give them a call to inquire what variety they have - the owner is into chickens, loves animals, and even owns an alpaca - 626/339-4707.

The LF cochins took care of and watched over the Bantam cochins. I didn't really want to keep them together but they became friends so it worked out. They are both very sweet natured.

I had 4 Embden Geese, 2 African Grey geese, Tufted Roman goose, and three ducks they were are friendly and loved treats and company are grew up together but the Greys instantly turned on the ducks when they were big enough. So the geese found a new home!

I'm having to go live with my Parents for around 6 months or more and my Husband is going to.be living in San Diego he is in the Navy. My parents live in a mobile home park /: and I drive a little Subaru Forester, that's going to be a nightmare with my three little dogs who act like clowns in the car lol.
If I could have taken the birds I would have, I miss them all ): I feel weird in the morning, without taking care of them now.. so strange you get in a certain routine and when it's broken what do you do!?! Lol

Hello! I am in Alpine (East San Diego County), CA. I am new to chickens but I dove in head first! I currently have a Rhode Island Red, Silver Laced Polish, Easter Egger, Cream Legbar, and an Olive Egger, along with a plethora of other animals. I am in love with having chickens. They are all so funny and have such different personalities. I have already learned so much on this site!

Wow - talk about life changes! Just the 3 dogs alone will be a handful in your new situation but you've done a marvelous job of re-homing the poultry.

Good wishes to you and DH and bless your parents!

Hi and welcome!

Yes, chickens are probably the most addictive pet/hobby I know of! Like potato chips, you can't just have one or two bites. You want to try ALL the flavours and egg colors! LOL

I'm not a fan of mixing gentle breeds with heavier or dual purpose large fowl. The RIR, CL, and OE are a good mix but the SLP and EE are gentler breeds and will get bullied by the other fowl when all reach 18 months to 2 years when the bigger breeds will start pushing their weight around. You see, Polish and EEs are non-combative breeds that usually don't retaliate when bullied and sometimes get injured or at the least mercilessly chased and pushed around by the assertive LF. You may want to get an extra Polish and EE so they can break off into groups to get away from the bigger LF when the feathers starts to fly. Everyone who makes these unthinking mixes say "but they all seem to get along so far." I repeat that it's at 18 months to 2 years when the bigger breeds will start pushing their weight around. RIRs are especially assertive. They are sweet with people but can be terrors to flockmates.

Being forewarned you are now fore-armed - Smiles

Thanks, ill will make sure to keep an eye on them. The RIR are currently with the SLP and EE, they are all about the same age (3/4 months) the OE and CL are newbies (5/6 weeks) and will stay separate for awhile longer.
