California-Southern

For those that have project breeding programs, broodies, or have regular hatches.... What time of year is best for you to get rid of extra or unwanted chicks and chickens? When is the best time of year to cut down on your numbers? I'm thinking of putting together a meet up in Elsinore due to the high interest level in So. CAL.
I'm thinking maybe mid November...

From the Crazy H-Bar Ranch; How many of you would be interested in coming to Lake Elsinore for the meet-up in October? I'm trying to get everyone's thoughts on the idea. There are a couple of very nice parks that are close to the freeway. Just give a yay or nay...

Yes. We're looking to add at least 3 new chicks to put current flock of 4 and I think a meetup would be a great place to start.

Hi! I have 2 chicks 5 weeks old that are free to a good home.

One is a Bantam Cochin and the other is a Bantam Black frizzle . Both are adorable, but just can't keep them

I think the Cochin may be a Roo and the Frizzle may be a pullet but totally not sure about either one. Please let me know if you would be interested and are in the SoCal area!

Hey Chickenchaser I live in Huntington Beach too! I have also had great experiences at both feed stores you mentioned. The place on Newport blvd is Feed Barn. A little pricier than Midway City Feed but, you're right, the people are very personable. The guys over at Midway have been very friendly and knowledgable in all of my experiences there as well. Glad to see someone here from my neck of the woods!

WARNING! PREDATOR ALERT FOR CHICKENEERS AND/OR FOR THEIR BELOVED PETS - POISONOUS ALBINO COBRA (ILLEGAL IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA WITHOUT SPECIAL LICENSE) IS LOST BY IRRESPONSIBLE PET OWNER IN THOUSAND OAKS, CALIFORNIA AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITY - reported on the KFI 640 morning radio today.

I want to add to my flock in October. Specifically, I'd like to add a Faverolles, an Ameraucana and maybe also an Appenzeller Spitzhauben, and perhaps also have a second small flock comprised of bantams, like Silkies and Polish. Via CL, I found a small farm in SD county that might have breeds I want. They don't have Faverolle chicks, but can offer a Faverolle x Legbar. Anyone familiar with that cross? What's the temperament of the cross like? Also, do y'all know of other local breeders who have those breeds you can recommend? Thanks!

Are you only looking for pullets or can you consider roosters?
There is a lady in Torrance who has silkies she needs to rehome due to a change of circumstances. It sounds like she has been very selective with her flock of hens and roosters.

If you check on the NorCal thread I think you can find all of those varieties/breeders.
I have Cream Legbars and Marans, and a variety of olive eggers including Ameraucana mixes if that is helpful.
