Hi everyone !! I'm fairly new!! I live in Wildomar but I saw the meet and greet to late
I have only posted with questions for help on illnesses. New to chickens already went through fowl pox sinus infections , vaccinating myself lol. Look forward to the next meet and greet. Is there a local avian vet you guys use??

Welcome! The next meet-up will not be till spring, but the way times flies, it will be here before you know it! I live too far away for my avian vet to be of any use (Pasadena). I do not know of any out that way, you can try a google search to see who is out your way...

These are nice, knowledgeable people but I have decided it might not be worth the money to treat chickens no matter how much I love them as I have twice had bills over $100 and the 2 chickens I took ended up dying anyways (not because of the vet care but because what they had both times were not something that treatment would have stopped them from dying).

Hi and welcome! I am in Orange County so my vet info is not in your area. I have had fowl pox with mine too..dry thank goodness! Really nothing to do for the dry but wait it out

Hi everyone. Don't know where Wildomar is so probably not near me. My vet is located in East San Gabriel Valley but I've referred Inland Empire people to him with positive feedback. Most vets in the cities only treat dogs/cats - But my vet treats dogs/cats/exotics/birds and more reasonably than an avian specialist. He does most of his own surgeries rather than referring you to yet another doctor. Sometimes a discount coupon may be available online for a free initial visit (about $40). I have a Silkie that gets a respiratory issue every winter and I don't hesitate to take her to my vet immediately at the first sign of symptoms.

Chickens like most animals mask their ailments/illnesses so that when symptoms become evident they should be treated asap. I just took my Silkie in to him yesterday for a respiratory issue - he is so good and gentle with her. She had the same respiratory issue last year. We thought we were losing her. We sat up all night with her wheezing laboriously until we could get her to the vet's office the next morning.

She has to have a Baytril injection 3 days in a row (I'm taking her in to the vet again today for her second injection and tomorrow for her 3rd). She has to have Tylan in her drinking water for 10 days also. I love this vet and received positive feedback from people I've referred to him for their chickens, dogs, or cats.

Many people that have a large flock of birds have learned how to diagnose and treat their chickens but I don't have the frequency of illnessess or the confidence in myself to treat my 3 pet chickens so it is worth it to me to use our vet - especially when it comes to injections.

Perhaps our DVM can refer you to someone in your area?

Glad to meet you. Yes, chicken issues are a pain and come with the decision of self help....or going to the Vet. If you peck froggiesheins brain for advice you may up your odds of keeping healthy birds.

I have tried google to no help
And asked were I purchased my chicks af the breeder but she hadent found one either . I have self treated suscessfully from fowl pox infected eyes ( with byc friends help of course) respitory and swollen pus eyes eeww

Almost better .. She had two infected eyes I had to squeeze out .

But now I have a pullet that had/ has sinus infection it is to low to force the solid pus up out eye and I don't know if it will go away on its own ( the bubble) I have been treating with tylan , eye saline and eye drops for conjunctivitis . It's been 2.5 weeks . I fear I need to slit below bump and force out clump of pus but I am scared . I'll post a picture just a second.

Will warm compresses be enough to work it loose and exit though eye as I have done in past? Of im thinking I need a vet
