California-Southern

My 5 month old salmon Faverolles cockrel started crowing a couple of days ago (gulp!) and has tried to mount a few of the hens and pullets. Although he's announcing his rooster-hood quite proudly, he's still lacking many macho rooster traits.... he's a chickeny chicken, a drama queen (hence he's named RuPaul), and runs away when one of my big girls give him THE stare.

Anyways, I'm happy to report that my immediate neighbors all say they don't mind roosters, and we're not keeping him or the rest of the flock illegally. However, I am in a suburban neighborhood, and am still concerned about him crowing daily at 5:30am and disturbing neighbors. I'm getting him adapted to wearing a no-crow collar now and hope that we can reduce his volume. We're excited about being able to keep him though! He's getting quite handsome and his goofy antics make great entertainment. :)

we are all neighbors when it comes to support. its nice to have locals to share resources and meetups

Yes! We are...I love the wealth of info on this site. I was just trying to find people in my region (close by) that might want to get together... I really am pathetic when it comes to driving further than about 30 minutes. I usually stick pretty close to home. :) Thanks...

I have family in Yucaipa, and Redlands and Maybe Loma Linda. I was born in San Bernardino but we lived in Colton... I have family in Ridgecrest too. An uncle who what police chief there. I am in San Diego been here a very long time.. but it doesnt disconnect me from the rest of California.

So Neck of the woods is relative... Doesn't matter we all know someone who knows someone who can give you local advice or just moral supportl.

Its late I may not be making sense.

Totally making sense Deb! That is great.... most people do not know when I say Yucaipa where it is... let alone how to stay it

I love SD and will be down there for work for a week next week for a conference and can't wait. It is one of my favorite places to be in CA.

I would love to see pix of your Faverolles. We have 3 and are looking for more. Would like to add a couple more hens of show quality.

I'm pretty sure mine are not show quality, but they do come from Secret Hills Ranch, and I think Missy did make sure she has breeding stock from good lines.

They don't like to cooperate for photos, but I can try to take more later if you want better angles/views. RuPaul is wearing a collar under his hackles, and I must apologize on behalf of Betty White, who cannot seem to keep her beard clean, unlike her bearded lavender Ameraucana sister. :p

Here is a thought for the upcoming meet up. Would it be possible for some of our chicken friends to make up some gift baskets for the raffle gifts? I think we had some awesome gifts and gadgets last year but I saw the gifts baskets at the Bakersfield meet up and I thought that was pretty cool. What do you all think?

I can do something would it be okay if I did a silent auction for the wwsc (wild west Serama club) at this event its to help with the costs of putting on our annual event.
