Yikes ! Is he still a puppy ? Will he learn to amuse himself otherwise ? He is handsome but you might need to support a thrift store to buy him his own furniture to destroy LOL . Sure hope he mellow out as he adjusts to his new enviroment .

Hi everybody! I live in San Marcos. I have a mixed flock of laying hens, MF Project Cochins and Gold-necked, Porcelain & Lavender D'Uccles. I am hatching a bunch of D'uccles and should have some started chicks available in Feb.-March. Pm me if interested. I shop at the country feed store also sometimes & have seen those red stars. I think they are really good layers especially if you can only have a few birds want something reliable.

So far the eggs in my bator all seem good. I candled them on day 7 and had tons of embryos. After that I don't look anymore & assume that everything is going well. First hatch (4 eggs) should be this week. Bigger hatch to follow the next week. Oh, I have some "surprises" in one of my brooders. The wild chickens hatched some babies in our barn so I took all but one from the hen to raise. It sounds mean, but our yard is overrun with "feral" chickens which are escapees from our neighbors. They are some sort of combination of Ameracauna/gamebird/?/? these ones are black from head to toe: Black eyes, fuzz, beaks, legs. Mother is all black. Interestingly, these guys are not as fragile/helpless as regular chickens. They seem to automatically know how to eat or drink without being shown. One also escaped from a shallow tub I had it on in the laundry room counter and fell behind the washing machine. Not the typical behavior of hours-old chicks, I would say. (Chick was linty, but unharmed) I think I might name that one linty. lol

My Red Stars (discussed in previous posts) are MANIACS! They are very well behaved, but between the 4 of them I get 3 eggs each and every day. Over the few weeks that I've had them, all their eggs have progressed from Large to XL and at least one of them is now laying Jumbos. (Ooooow, that's gotta hurt!)

Yes I agree the Red Stars are good layers and sweet. My girls have become rather demanding and are noisy when they see me until they have their fill of greens and or pork fried rice with scrambled eggs or french toast or some other treat. You see I feel bad that I will not let them forage due to their habit of digging up my plants. Today I heard extra loud sqwaks so I went out to see what the problem was and saw a large bird of prey that I thought look like a hawk and when they were smaller I saw a pair of road runners on the roof of a building in next yard over. Who knew that road runners could fly ? My run is covered with aviary netting so I have some protection and from now on will never expose a bird to an un-netted area unless I am in the yard.

Does anyone in low-cal have an excess blue eggs layer rooster that needs a new home ? I sure would like to find an older roo who will not make my four young women bald but they could use some body to look after them. So since it can not hurt to ask............
