New to BYC, and am in the SFV. Just starting again with chicks (barred rock, Aracauna or Americauna or EE) from Red Barn. It's been a couple of years since I've had chickens, and am realllllllly looking for a couple of marans to add to my flock.

That meeting in San Diego sounds great, and I hope you all have lots of fun! Can you post pictures after you meet?

Hi LadyMaran! You are welcome to join us if you like!! Check Craig's List for pullets. Also your local feed stores. They'll be ordering lots next spring.

I'm in Encino and have 2 black copper marans cockerels if you're interested in males. If you used them over the Ameracauna, Aracauna or EEs you'd get Olive Eggers.

A meet-up sounds fun to me - they had one earlier in LA somewhere but I couldn't make it. I'm in Valley center so San Diego would be great for me.

Hi all...I live in OC and am getting my first coop on Monday <3 But, I have no chickens yet!

I know that it's probably late in the year for most places to sell chicks but does anyone know where I can get some Silkie pullets (chicks preferably). I've called all the local stores but most are sold out of chicks and none have Silkies. I am also looking for Australorps, BOs, EEs, and Faverolles, all pullets.

It's awesome that so many people here love chickens, I'm from S.C. originally where it's not uncommon to see farm animals, but it's a bit of a novelty here!

Naomi, thanks for the welcome. I do check craigslist every day! They had some listed in June, but I was going to be out of state so didn't want to get them then. Now that I am ready, of course I can't find them.

NewHen, thank you so very much for the offer of a BCM roo, but unfortunately I cannot have roosters here. A few years ago, One of my chicks turned out to be an EE roo and no one complained until I got new neighbors so I had to give Rocky up! He was so beautiful!

southernmama47, Red Barn on Reseda had EEs and Delawares, all pullets, on Friday. I see CL sometimes has Silkies, usually in Palmdale/Lancaster/Acton areas. It is great that so many love chickens! I wish I could have a rooster, but can't do it here. My realtor sent me a list of condos, but I told her in the past that I am not moving into a condo/townhome! I need a yard for plants and my chickies!

southernmama47 - Try Midway City Feed Store in Midway City (near Westminster/HB off of Bolsa Ave). They get a new supply of chicks in every Wednesday, all year long. The last two times I was in there, they had silkies but even if they don't, they might be willing to special order some for you as long as their suppliers still have them in stock. I've seen all of your other choices there except for the Faverolles. You'd have to ask specifically about them.
