That big egg is amazing.

I have other people hatch out eggs for me. Every time that they have helped a chick out of an egg, that chick turns out deformed or odd. The last batch has a rumpless Delaware- no tail or coccyx and curled toes. A bizarre sight. Of course, he's headed for my freezer.

This one is fine. If I hadn't moistened the membrane it would have suffocated. I haven't helped any more out. No pips. Even eggs from my girls didn't hatch, but then again they were pullet eggs. I'm so sad. Hopefully this next bunch will hatch.

I have 3 blue eggs from my Lav AM so far. I'm so glad it was her. I finally saw her in the box today. Another thing I'm getting is gray and taupe. Not sure which too those are, but they're from 2 of my pullets out there. Either GamexMarans, EExMarans Or OExMarans. I kind of like them. LOL

My FBCM hen is in the box again. Been there for an hour or more. Wonder what size this egg will be????

Darn, it wasn't her.

OK I need some help. Who would I contact out here for youth poultry groups? I have to get rid of some birds ASAP and I think most would be good for kids to handle. Not picking just one group, I want to offer to as many as I can for any kids who just can't afford a bird. So where would I look and what am I looking for. I have donated to 4-H, but can't find the person's name and number. I lose everything!

Max and I are going to his 4-H poultry meeting tonight; do you want me to ask them? The kids that don't already have birds are usually pretty young, so our leader encourages them to get the game varieties so they don't get too worn out doing showmanship. Is that what you have?

I have several things, no Games though. I have one in the brooder that may be a Wellie cockerel or a OEGB. Wings look too tight for one, but not sure what he is. I have 2 GLC pullets, a few large fowl, like a blue AM roo with too much bleeding, Might have some LF that I'm giving up. Well I am, but off color or OEs. If he goes to a really good home I have a bantam Wellie roo. I have a Game hen OEGB, but still haven't decided about her yet. Extra cockerels I picked up from Karen that didn't bring diddly at auction when I took one...........BTW Thank Taylor! LOL I may give up 2 of them. I'm going to try selling some of these but if there are kids that need then I can do that.

This was so much easier with dogs. LOL I donated at least one pup per litter back when I was showing. That's how I started out so had to give back. I always had a waiting list for pups, but always made sure a kid got one.

Hi Kim(Wolftracks)

I have a question about shrink wrap. Is it caused by too much humidity during the first 18 days? I think I read that somewhere, that the egg needs to dry out some to allow the lining to not get tough. So, do you dry incubate? One post said they add water to one channel of the brooder at days one and ten, and then fill all of the channels at lockdown, so that would be a modified dry hatch?

My Marans eggs(there were 4) had shrink wrap on the three that did not hatch. Maybe it's more of a problem with Marans and some other eggs?

Thanks!

I do have more trouble with Maranas. I used to hatch them out just fine, but for the last year, my hatches suck. I do a dry hatch. I'm tryed several methods of hatching them and dry usually works. But there was a dozen from each seller. PO is abusive to my boxes. I had very little hope from the one shipment and I did get 2 from the other. I think the eggs I set from my girls were just not fertile yet. I still toss them in the bator just in case.

Later this spring I plan on hatching some Marans eggs from either Roseville or Davis. Both Breeders are close enough for me to drive to, so i will not have to deal with the post office.

Good luck with hatching your eggs
