I have a situation in which I'm not sure what to do.

I'm not going to name names because you know the person.

I wanted some more chickens from a good breeder and this person recommended a breeder who sells hatching eggs. Expensive hatching eggs that have to be shipped a long way. I don't have an incubator, so I asked this person if they would incubate the eggs for me. They agreed. I've been on the waiting list for the eggs, for months, and they are finally ready to be shipped, so I contacted the person with the incubator. They said that their good incubator was being used but their Hovabator was available. They recommended that I wait for the Brinsea incubator because the Hovabator doesn't work as well. So, I checked with the breeder to see if he could wait, and emailed the person with the incubator back, asking them to contact the breeder to arrange the date of shipment.

That was on the 18th. No response from the person with the incubator, so I sent another email to them on the 22nd. Still no response. They have been posting on BYC all during this time. The breeder is wondering when and where to send the eggs.

I'm not sure whether the person with the incubator no longer wants to do it or what. I'm not sure what to do.

I have a friend, who also has a Hovabator, who might incubate the eggs for me. She has done it twice before. She lives all the way in Redwood City. I also know someone closer to me who has an incubator but has no experience using it. These eggs are costing me $55 for a dozen, so I want to be sure to make the right decision.

What should I do???

Just an FYI here. I have an expensive Lyon incubator, an old galvanized Brower and a hovabator. As long as the hovabator is kept in an atmosphere that is above 70 degrees it works great for me. It just cant keep up if the room temp drops below 70.

I'm not sure exactly where you are, but Sowngrow has incubated for me and she only have one more hatch before she shuts down, but she said that she may keep it running if someone needs eggs hatched. I'd do it for you, but I need to order some eggs and set a hatch to test. I didn't get many birds hatched this season and I have some bad ones. Also had some 100% hatches. I guess I did pretty good though now that I take into concideration that many were shipped eggs with broken aircells. I get some pretty battered boxes.

Speaking of that. I haven't do anything with the Egg Train lately. I have a lot of people signed up and I had a list of coordinators, but I started this when Bill was still alive and I didn't really come in here much, so I lost the people that were really envolved at first. I've moved a lot of birds, no eggs???, but the train does work. I just can't do it alone. So if anyone is interested in reorganizing and getting it back on track, let me know. Some people do use the lists on the threads and contact members from there, but I rarely hear from them when they do. Anyway, it's out there. Went great till I fell apart and still has some potential if enough people are willing to really get in and work it.

The old house and gardens are Sowngrow's (Karen) and I just love that old farm house. I'd kill for that house.

I just came in really to post about using Sevin on quail and rabbits. It occured to me that the chickens will roost on top of the rabbit cages, so it they have worms or something they could possible pass it on to the rabbits. So I need to find out. I'm going to be worming with Wazine all and I guess I need to find out if that's ok for them too.

I lost another bird. I've been crying all day, because he was my new favorite. He was in a dog crate last night with vitamin water and feed and I checked him at midnight and he was standing there, but not active. I found him this morning. arrggg Crying again. I'm so upset. I quarentine and I check for bugs and I worm and no one looks sick. I just don't get it!! I've been taking care of animals and it looks like I haven't cleaned out there in a month, because I don't have time to do my every other day stuff. I just feel like crawling in a hole.

Debi I'll ad that link later this evening. Thank you for posting it.

I had one of Makayla's does in with one of her bucks and when I went to take her out this morning she was stuck in the wire. I have smaller rabbits on that wire and I have no idea how she got stuck, but her toes were stuck in one place and the back of her leg in another spot. She was pinned down, dehydrated and I lost a rabbit. This is why O need to go post and ask about the wazine and sevin. Something is not right at the house. Even my dogs don't gain the weight the should, so I'm thinking I may need to take a dirt sample of something to the Ag office.

Maybe it my curse again. Probably.

Kim, I got ivermic from Heather at Js West in Modesto. I use it on the rabbits and all of my birds. You might try talking with her. Sorry to hear your having such a hard time. Let me know if I can do anything to help.

Thanks Taylor. I do have a lot of Wazine. I used Sevin on the chickens, but I do have Permectin II, I just can't find a decent spray bottle. I bought one the other day for the Oxine, but it only sprays, doesn't mist and it's cheap. I looked all over till I went to Dollar Tree to check and they have this one.

The chickens got the Wazine a while ago, but now I need to find out if the quail and rabbits will be ok. OH you have quail! Do you think they'd be alright with the Wazine?

I'm so upset about this rooster. I'm upset about the rabbit, but the rooster was the one that because my favorite after I lost my favorite. It took a while for him to come up and want to be held and then he got to the point of he could, he'd try to fly up on my shoulder. I was constantly knocking him off. He was a pest lately, but while I was diggong up the far end of my yard for a winter garden he'd come down and watch and use it as a reason to keep a distance from a couple of the other roos. They'd chase him around, so he'd stay nearby, so I could chase them away. He thought he had to be fed by hand and when treats went out, he'd stand back and they look at you like he was being missed, so we'd go hand it to him and then he'd take off. I lost 3 roos in one day this summer. I thought I could never feel that bad again, but today proved me wrong.

You aren't supposed to get this attached to a chicken right? I mean they are supposed to be basically food. My great grandmother had top show chickens and I bet we ate them when she was done with them. When I had told Bill I wanted chickens he tought I was nuts, but I wanted them so he finally gave it after years of me bugging him. I didn't get attched to they years ago, but man I feel like a little kid who's puppy died.

The planets must be doing something to mess with me. My head hurts so bad, I can't even think.

Kim, I wish that I could say something to make you feel better. Some animals just make a home in our hearts. There's nothing wrong with that except that it leaves us feeling empty when they're gone.

Do you have a friend or neighbor, someone close by, who you can call? It sounds like you shouldn't be alone right now.

Hugs,
Kim
