CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

Kim, it wasn't my Minorca at the auction. Mine are a SQ pair & a second pullet so I will craigslist ad them. Have you tried that? I never take my birds to the auction until they are full grown now. I tried taking younger ones & got pratically nothing for them.
We had fun yesterday & 3 of us picked up our feed. Denny stayed over & will get her feed this morning before she heads home.
Are you going on the 15th? MrsMoonCat & I are going to carpool & I think Denny is coming up the day before to go with us.
I sold my B/A yesterday. They went home with Carrie & I am going to sell my Golden Cuckoo Marans too. I am learning to cut back finally.....LOL
Aaron's last 3 Red Golden pheasantchicks are being picked up this morning. Feed should last longer with less mouths to feed.....LOL

Hi Karen,

Is there a chicken auction in Sacramento?

It is nice to cut back! I have four less Cockerels now.

That is good to know. Thank you very much. I'll go do it right now to see what she thinks, etc.

Hello everyone. Just checking in to see how you are doing.
FYI, I received a very nice e-mail from Carrie and am waiting for her to evaluate her situation in regards to sending me some BA chicks in the future. Also wanted to tell you how much I do appreciate your efforts to help me attain my dream goal.

BTW, I have been reading your posts about auctions, etc. I have not been to any in my lifetime so am a bit intrigued. It must be quite an experience knowing generally but not exactly what is coming in as "the buyer". Personally I would imagine at times it would be very difficult via quick decisions & great deals limiting purchases. lol Wolftracks, am sorry to hear as "a seller" your chickens & quail did not receive the proper respect due to earn you a fair price for them. Good on you for such a good attitude.

Well, hope you will send some sunshine to us up North. We have had such a cool, rainy climate this summer so far that our fields are still green and very lush rather than the usual dry brown ones. The blessing is that it will be less hazardous when the community sets off the multitude of fireworks this week. Also my two BR hens are certainly enjoying all the green goodies available to them. Since we have a family of raccoons living nearby and many eagles flying over I do restrict their free ranging but my husband moves their tractor once a week so they are insured a bounty of greens frequently. Also we have a very nice organic garden growing which includes some of their favorites such as mesclun salad greens, chard, spinach, carrots, etc. We have been eating some wonderful salads lately. We have tomatoes, cukes and red peppers in the greenhouse as well. Too cold up north to grow those outdoors. Speaking of such I better get off now as it is time to feed and water again.

Have a wonderful day.

Karen I did sell several on CL, but after a while I just couldn't deal with some of the people. Didn't matter how many pics I could send or whatever, but a couple just drove me crazy. I don't deal well with people anymore, remember. LOL

Dee the auction was very addicting for me. I used to do once a month and then when we were looking for a cheap place to rent I agreed with this house because it's 2 short blacks away. The first monday after we moved in I was up and ready to walk over and my husband said "WOW! Now I know why you didn't complain about this house!" LOL I just smiled, held my hand out and we both laughed as I took off out the door. Cash in hand. hehe I didn't go much after he died and then started going every week. Then my grand daughter started kindergarten and I got tired of getting there late and having to leave early.

I went out today to feed and water. There's still feed out there! YAY! LOL Amazing what even tiny chicks can put away.

BTW I lived on Ranier as a baby. I love that mountain even now. When my great grandmother moved there years later we would visit her in Auburn every summer and she remodeled her kitchen so she could see the mountain from almost every angle of her house. I never remember the rain. I spent some winters there. Started the 6th grade there, but all I remember is heat and snow. Haven't been there since her funeral 23 years ago, but I keep saying I'm going back to see relatives. I remember picking blue berries for hours at a time every day for a week. I used to want to move there until I just could take the cold even here, so wouldn't be a good fit for me. I'll send you a little of this heat though. And I'm so glad you're visiting us on this thread and meeting people. That's awesome.

Cheryl you can always come out and go to the auction here. I think I blew it. I was thinking prices would still be a little higher this week since it's the first art of the month. DUH! 4th of July??? Everyone's leaving for the lake.

Ron,
I don't know if Sac has an auction. I rarely head that direction. Modesto has one every Monday, Escalon has one evry Friday, Madera has one every Saturday & Valley Springs has one the first Sunday of each month. That is all I know of personally. I usually have good luck with Craigslist & haven't really had any negative experiences with it. You could also try putting up an ad at the local feed stores or Tractor Supply. They told me they have a board to post ads in the store.
My ausralorps went home with Carrie yesterday & the money will go to Olivia's bank account. I had bought them for her 4H project. Very nice birds. My Mottled Javas are spoken for & My son's last 3 Red Golden pheasants went to Planada this morning with a very nice Dad & his 2 boys. They bought a pair of my Light Sussex teenagers too.......LOL They will be coming back for Yokohamas & APA Orpingtons in blue.
Had a great time with my "chicken lovin" gals yesterday & today. Everyone has gone home with their new load of feed now.
Happy holiday to all
Karen

Thank you Karen!

I will be putting three marraduna Basque cockerels and two FBC Marans on craigslist soon. Later I will be putting two Cream Legbars on too.

I am going to find Stony Creek Falls tomorrow. I tried last summer but got lost. This year I have it in a GPS as coordinates.

Have a great fourth!

Ron
