I think it's time to do a civil suit. I wouldn't bother with sending a letter to them. I'd sue for vet bills and the loss of your hen. These people aren't going to do the "right" thing. Having dogs that kill livestock and don't have shots and are tied with no shelter to trees isn't "the right thing." Looks like animal control is sleeping on the job.
Typical of this county. When my dog Isis and I were attacked in Dec, I was on the phone with 911, screaming for them to send help to get the dog out of my house and I get a phone call from AC 20 minutes later to take a dog bite report. My son had to hand me the phone while I was trying to get this dog off my dog before it locked it's jaw, because dispatch wanted to ask me what was going on. ??????When I finally talked to AC she gave me other numbers to use, which I lost along with every other contact I had in my phone last week. But she told me they also don't carry a weapon, so they couldn't have helped if it had gotten worse. OK, so you send the cops! AC acted like it was my fault that the dispatcher didn't send the cops. Geez I'm sreeming the dog is in my house attacking us and see said she was contatcting AC and hung up. I never asked for AC, only that they send help before we got chewed up.
AC drove around for 5 minutes looking for the dog. I seen the dog since, but AC is usless. If that had been my kid, I would have been all over the news by now. Luckily I got it off of Isis and out the door with just the back of my hand and finger bite slightly before Dakotah got hold of his bat. This is just unacceptable. We have at least and I'm not kidding, 50 Chihuahuas that run the street. At night there's a mini pack and sometimes you hear the fights between them and bigger dogs. But they breed non stop. And all AC does is walk door to door and ticket anyone with an unlicensed dog that has them under control. I've never in 2 1/2 years at this house, seen them out picking up all the strays or dogs that are allowed to run the streets. And when one of these dogs gets hit by a car or killed by a bigger dog, the owners run out and get another one, even though that already have maybe 10.
Sorry, I'm still a little touchy about it. They kept sending me letters about the bite so I could go in to the health department. I figured if I came down with Rabies, I'd show up then , frothing.
Figures they can take care of business like they need to when dogs are attacking other animals. They're pretty much a waste of space here. I see their trucks parked at fast food resturants and convience stores eating. I'm not lying! And not one of them is in any shape to bend over and pick up a dead animal, let alone chase down one that has a heartbeat. Ohhhhhh I think I have serious issues where Stanislaus County is concerned. LOL
