I currently have 7 call duck eggs incubating. I’ve been doing a lot of research and it seems they are difficult to hatch due to the short neck/bill. It’s getting closer and closer to lockdown and im wondering how I should proceed. Some threads say to candle and do a safety hole when they internally pip, others say just to let them do their thing. I would really appreciate any advise from someone with call duck hatching experience

Sadly there is no definitive yes or no answer.
With mine i have learned it's best to do the safety hole, then i wait and watch. Sometimes they do fine, but more often then not i end up having to assist. The linked article above is a good guideline to use. Ducks are slow to hatch so it's a fine line between rushing it and waiting too long. I know this doesn't help you much.. but a lot of it is jusy going with your gut. If you decide to assist go super slow. Uncover the bill area and then wait. Remember that long as it is making yawning and chewing motions it is absorbing yolk and is not ready.

Oh i might add, if these are shipped eggs that increases the likliehood you'll need to assist.

They are not shipped, I got them locally. I candled this morning and I think one has internally piped, I can hear tapping and a bit of chirping as well. I have put them all into lockdown. We are on day 24

Can someone help, I just lost one of the ducklings, I made safety holes in 3 this morning (they internally pipped over 12 hours prior). Everything seemed fine, then this evening I noticed bruising on one of the eggs outside the air sac. I got worried to checked on the egg and saw no movement. I opened him up and he was dead, appears to have suffocated. No idea why he turned around :( he was pipped in the air sack and then decided to turn and try and externally pip outside the air sack. Anyways, I have now opened up the other 2 eggs air sacs since I’m worried now. They seem to be doing ok but I could use advise on how to proceed.

At this point, keep the membrane moist and watch for the veins to recede. I’m really sorry about the one that died. I hope someone with Call duck experience can give you advice

Call duck hatching is very frustrating. Sometimes this happens despite our best efforts.
