Call Ducks Finally Hatched

Thanks I know!!! These are the first batch from my personal call ducks. I can't wait to see what other colors pop out!!! I think these are snowys!

Oh nice! still debating on whether to allow any of mine to set this year.. on one hand their so cute on the other i have a massive propensity to drakes here lol (the big ducks though not the whittles..)

not true. ducks will not help their eggs hatch. so they very well may have issues hatching. just keep a close eye on them. check the eggs daily despite the protests of the hens. just do not upset them enough to break them from the nest, if the eggs have not hatched in reasonable time then they need moved into an incubator

I was not saying that ducks will help their eggs hatch. Just saying that they are more successful at it then we are (meaning higher hatch rates). There a lot of variables involved, not just their tiny beaks and short necks.

I was referring to this, lol? I thought the small beaks is what hinders them in artificial incubation; that wouldn't change if a broody incubates them, right?

There are more obstacles for them to overcome during hatching and incubation then just small beaks. Temp and humidity is also an issue. Mother ducks seem to know better than we do what the eggs/babies need (sit when they need warmth, get off to cool them, take a bath to raise humidity, etc). A mother duck almost always has a better hatch rate then we do. A lot of people even put the eggs under a broody chicken because even they seem to hatch better then we do

Here's the first two! I'm actually shocked at how tiny their beaks are!!!! Third is out but still in the bator.

Awww. They're adorable!!!

Any of you guys gunna hatch calls for the Easter hatch?

If i can't get my girls to cooperate well enough to send their eggs to Lori I just might lol. I just set 5 yesterday lol. Got 2 more today so it's a start. Hoping that they'll keep laying at least 2 a day for the next few days and I can get some shipped out on Monday morning.

Thank you for answering my question!

No problem. Sorry if it was misconstrued or misunderstood. I have several that are extremely tiny. Tiny bodies, tiny beaks. 2 out of 3 that I set last time started zipping out of their egg and just quit 1/2 way through. The 3rd I helped along as I couldn't just stand by and watch the same thing happen again. She's 2 weeks old today and doing great!
