Call Ducks Finally Hatched

I was wanting to get some eggs from her. Saw that you might be going up that way and was thinking that it might be better hatching if they were picked up instead of being shipped and wondering if you would mind.

Yup I'm okay with that. See if she has enough time to collect eggs I am meeting her Friday afternoon.

Liquid of any kind can push the bacteria into the shell. Eggs should never be washed. I haven't had a problem with mine developing even if they are dirty. The only ones that I've had issues with are the ones that 1 of my buff hen lays in the middle of the run, in direct sunlight, where it gets trampled by the others at times... crazy girl.

Maybe the higher humidity was causing it. Misting whem would do the same thing? Push the bacteria into the shell?

It has to do with the protective coating on the shell. Washing the shell washes away the coating which can allow bacteria to get in. However if the egg is fertile its going to start to grow or you should get blood rings even if bacteria gets in.

I have dirty eggs all the time and I mist my eggs no issue.

Sounds like you have infertile eggs. What's your drake to hen ratio?

Maybe I Had been runing my humidity to high. It was 30% I am at 20% now, untill lockdown.

I've heard that humidity at different elevations can play a role too. I would imagine that NV is at a much higher elevation than FL so I don't know if the lower humidity would work for you or not. Worth trying though if you're not having luck at higher humidity.

Misting is not washing though and doesn't remove the bloom off the egg that helps prevent bacteria from entering the egg. If you wash that away bacteria will be able to enter the egg easier and cause early death

True, should still see blood rings with early death.
