Call Ducks Finally Hatched

Awww. Look at my grand baby. She's so beautiful!!
You were right! the first of the eggs I tossed in my incubator without actually looking at it is almost ready to pop out of it's egg is mandarin. In about a month or so I should have a whole clutch hatching. They are still laying eggs, so the hen is not sitting on them yet.

It seems that you need two male to go with your females if I remember correctly. I sure like those pied ducklings!

Woohoo. I have 1 pair here already but would love to add to the flock.

I will hatch out a bunch now that the other girls are starting to lay and I will send pictures so you can pick whichever ones you want me to ship in the fall.

I have 4 out now. One that started to zip last night died in the shell and I have no idea why. It was a beautiful chocolate, too! Two more are pipped right now and I'm really starting to worry about them since the zipper died. Anything I can do to help them not die before they get out?

Congrats on the little ones.

Sometimes they wear themselves out trying to get out during zipping and die. Once they start zipping you can help them by finishing the zipping for them. That's what I do. I only take the top off and pop their heads out and then I let them finish getting out of the shell on their own

I now have 6 adorable ducklings and we are done until the next batch in 3 days. Of the 10 that went into lockdown, 2 quit before hatch,1 died zipping and 1 pipped the wrong end and face down so I didn't know until this last one hatched and I pulled it to candle. Sad but I'm so happy with the 6 I've got! Pictures when they fluff.

Finally I woke up to 4 pips this morning! I have 10 in lockdown that were due yesterday. I was going to candle this morning but now I have pips! I did see a few other eggs wiggling so maybe I'll have a good rate this time. These are some of the eggs I picked up about an hour away for FREE so no shipping issues on these. They are also the first mixed color ones I've incubated so I'm super excited to see what comes out! Now back to staring at the bator.....
WOOO HOOO, just keep an eye on them, I have had a lot of people wonder why are my calls zipping (sort of speaking) then died shortly after, I heard about 3 cases now. Not sure what the calls are doing now a days. But Tammy and I know what that's like. Your pretty much safe if you see them cracking around that shell and get the top part off to let them get there heads out..
