Call Ducks Finally Hatched

Magpie? Where?? I want one!!

Currently in FL but am finally going to spread my wings a little and make a move Better late than never I guess lol. I'm really nervous but excited too. I was born here and family has kept me here all these years. I don't travel because of all the furred and feathered kids, but I want to experience something else before it's too late and I have regret. I visited NC when I was 15 to see snow and remember thinking how beautiful it was there. I'm sure things have changed a lot since then but I'm ready to give it a go. I've already started making the preparations to get my house on the market here by the end of the year and hope to make the move by spring.

I only have 1 pair of blue magpies and I know how much Lori loves them so next year she'll have to come visit me to get some. I will be all alone up there so I wouldn't mind the company Alison (learycow) has some beautiful magpie kids up there in ME also

Nuts. And here's lil' ol' me on the west coast. :/ NC is indeed lovely, my cousin lives about 20 minutes outside Raleigh! And I too know the joys and anxieties of leaving the only place you know. Moved from L.A, to Seattle in 2008 and never looked back. Driving 1400 miles with two angry cats is not something I ever wanna repeat.

Nuts. And here's lil' ol' me on the west coast. :/ NC is indeed lovely, my cousin lives about 20 minutes outside Raleigh! And I too know the joys and anxieties of leaving the only place you know. Moved from L.A, to Seattle in 2008 and never looked back. Driving 1400 miles with two angry cats is not something I ever wanna repeat. 


 

LOL. I'm glad it worked out for you though. I will be making the drive with approx 100 chickens, 25 call ducks, 8 chinchillas, 2 dogs and a moluccan cockatoo. Very glad it's not 1400 miles lol. I'm looking to move to the west coast of NC in the mountain area, thinking Murphy but not 100% sure yet. Will depend on what house I fall in love with when the time comes. I sent some call eggs to CA a while back so I know there are some over your way with calls. I'm sure you'll find the perfect friend for your little girlie

I think you just made me realize why I don't consider Calls to be all that loud like many people do. I used to have cockatoos, and one of them was a Moluccan. That bird was smarter than a lot of people I know but, man, talk about noise. My 8 Calls all calling at once wouldn't be able to give him even a small run for his money. I'd rather make that drive with everything else you listed put together than with one Moluccan.

I do not add any water to the incubator during the first 23 days. I mist the eggs 3 times a day with incubator temperature water (small spray bottle stays inside the incubator) when I turn them. It stays around 30% humidity and jumps to around 50% for about an hour after I turn and mist them. At lockdown I add a small dish of water to raise humidity to 65-70%. I have my last babies for the season in the incubator right now. 5 hatched this weekend, 4 in lockdown and 4 that will go into lockdown this weekend. All my girls have finally quit laying for the year.

HERE WE GO, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN, SOMEONE ELSE WHO KNOWS MISTING IS A GOOD THING. Are you still having that issue of them dieing on hatching day and they are zipping out of the shell. I believe we solved that problem right? We had to either help them or MIST them, if I recall

Yes, I have to help them or they don't usually make it out. Once they pip externally I give them 24 hrs to start zipping. At the 24 hr mark, if they're not completely out I pop the top off the egg for them and get their head out. Then I let them do the rest themselves. I still lost 3 this hatch that pipped internally but never externally. Out of 15 though so it wasn't too bad.

NICE I'm not having anyone issues either but guess what! I have a new layer!! Remember when I lost sassy and her gang and you and peach sent me some eggs! Well someone from that batch is laying !! I think it's the snowy.

. THIS GIRL she hangs out with my butterscotch. I have quite a few eggs cooking right now can't wait to see what comes out!! The eggs are half the size of my black call but I read the older they are the bigger the egg gets and my black call is a lot older then all of them.
