Call Ducks Finally Hatched

OKAY. I peeled off a bit of shell, it's peepin'! Its bill is out, it's breathing, and looks like it had shoved itself up a bit into the air cell 'cuz it can't break through the shell itself. I did see a little bit of fresh blood, but only a little. I put it back in the bator with a cotton ball to help get the humidity back up quickly.

I'll try to peel a little more off in another 6-8 hours if it's absorbed its veins, and it hasn't gotten itself out by then. But I know that once I've helped it this far, I'll probably have to help it the rest of the way. Does that sound like a solid plan?

your panicking, It's OK, did you hit his membrane?

Yes. The uppermost part looks dull, but I did see a spot of fresh veining down there. That's why I put it back in the bator.
OK no problem, don't panic like that again otherwise, I'm gonna come up there and do it myself.. Which means when I leave, BABY GOES WITH ME... LOL

LOL, first thing when you see blood you have to STOP it. Sounds like you hit a little blood vessel, those are no big deal, they can't loose enough blood out of those to bleed to death. But that's OK, did you wet his membrane before you put him back?

Amanda, did you have to assist yours out, too?

I had to assist two of my five! One was very easy, I peeled away some of his shell (he had already done most of the work for me) and he had absorbed everything! One was pretty scary though, he hadn't absorbed everything and bled a little bit. After a few hours, and absorbing the rest of his yolk, he was perfectly healthy! I just made sure to keep his membrane moist with a warm q-tip! I did that very often throughout the night, waiting until he absorbed all he needed to! His little bum was in his shell for a few hours, absorbing all he needed to before finally breaking free! I talked to each of them the whole time! They all responded to momma! :)

Sounds like Amanda didn't panic. LOL

I am not panicking, Lacry. In fact, I'm quite calm. And I did not hit a blood vessel. I slowly and methodically peeled back the shell from the air cell area, and only the air cell area, and I saw red around the puncture site where the little guy had broken the membrane on his own. So I placed him back in, lightly went over it with a damp q-tip to stop the membrane from drying out, and I am going to wait.

If anyone here is riled up at this point, it's you, dear. But I can hardly blame you, you have your own emergency to deal with. :/
