Call Ducks Finally Hatched

clousert will you be selling any of your hatchlings? I am less than an hour from you =)

That's awesome. You're the closest I've met on here so far. More than likely yes, I will be selling some of the babies. Probably not as new hatchlings though because the eggs are mixed and I wont know who is what until they start to feather. I made the duck house big enough for 15 calls. They require a license to own here in FL which allows Fish & Wildlife to come inspect for proper living quarters. Requirement is 75 sq ft of ground space per 4 adult birds. You can get a pet only license for free but if you plan to breed or sell birds or eggs the license is $50 per year and another $50 if you plan to show them. They are supposed to be kept enclosed at all times but most dont. I believe Anconas are the same here in FL (as most all ducks are) so if you already have a game bird license you can just add the calls. Babies are also required to be pinioned, hind toe clipped off or seemless metal leg band before 6 wks of age. I chose the leg bands. No way am I removing wings or hind toes. You can check the fwc website for more info. So... with 5 calls already, 17 in the incubator and more eggs on the way, as long as all goes well with hatching I will have a few to sell.

Awesome yup I have the game bird license application going out in the mail next week for the Anconas and bob whites, I'll go ahead and add the call ducks since I'll most likely have some. I'll definitely be interested if you have a couple to sell later on so keep me in mind!

Leg bands are required for the Anconas too I think (at least the adults I have were banded). The breed is called "call duck" right? For putting on the license app?

Yes, on the breed being call ducks. All captive bred waterfowl must be marked in 1 of the 3 ways listed above, or tattoo on foot is acceptable also, to prove they were captive bred and not gotten from the wild. These are my first baby calls but I got my leg bands from L&M size 18 if that helps.

My biggest concern would be one of the larger males trying to mount a female call. Can cause serious injury.

Peachncrm37... Glad you're able to make a separate space for them and join the call owner family :)

And chances are the boys will, that is why I had mentioned the fact with my call duck even though much smaller then my Rouen stilled tried, and if these little guys are determined to try chances are the big guys will too..

Men are horn dogs, lol

So separating them will probably be the best, chances are you'll enjoy them so much, you'll want more. Lol
When they are little and it's time to go outside, omg it's the cutest little thing, they follow you because you are the only thing they know... But once they spend a night outside BOOM, they don't know you anymore, it's grown up time, lol

But you seen in my one pic when I was checking on mommy how right behind me there was 23 calls, that's because they are sooo darn curious of everything. Lol

I could just go on and on and on...

Awww. Poor baby. I'm so sorry. Glad you were at least able to save 2 of them. I raised the humidity on my single baby today. She's still moving in there but I'm so terrified something is going to happen to her. Especially while I'm at work and not able to be here to help her if she needs it. I hope the other 2 babies you've got continue to fight. Do you still think the due date is Nov 6th?

I'm gonna stick with that due date and I have taped them to the turner. Lol

It's not a fine it's a misdemeanor. I'm not sure what the monetary fine that's attached to that is (I've taken the hits in IL) but I'm not screwing with getting a misdemeanor.

OMG OMG OMG OMG My baby has pipped. I can see her in the air space but I cant tell which part of her it is. I would assume beak because if she was upside down she wouldnt be in the airspace, right??? OMG OMG OMG she's not due til Thur. Is she going to be ok? I'm a freaking out mom waiting to be.
