Call Ducks Finally Hatched

The ones on ebay are blue fawn and butterscotch. That's where I got my previous eggs from. Even with picking up the eggs only 1 hatched out of 27 eggs (Lily). Had 2 blood rings and 1 other that quit at day 11 or 12 but rest were infertile. Also bought my 5 adults from him and was not happy. My apricot was supposed to be a butterscotch and my penciled drake is missing an eye.

Oh wow thanks for the heads up.

OMG, sounds like to much inbreeding perhaps...

Don't really think it was inbreeding. The juveniles that i purchases were fully feathered 6 month olds. He just sent me an apricot female that he told me was a butterscotch. Even sent me pictures of butterscotch. So to me he knew the difference and tried to pull one over on me. And my drakes eye was some kind of injury. Was a recent injury because it was still an open wound when he arrived. He either never checked him before sending him to me or again tried to pull one over on me. For whatever reason the eggs were mostly infertile with only 4 out of 27 being fertile. Just an all around bad experience and I wouldn't ever recommend them to anyone

Yeah. I hack it up to a learning experience. I love my apricot girlie but she's not what I was intending to buy. The pictures of his ducks are beautiful so I was excited. Thought maybe I had done something wrong when incubating or that maybe post office was too rough with the 1st batch of eggs so my parents picked up another batch of eggs from him on their way here from NC but I got the same results. Then decided to just buy juveniles in case it was my incubating that was wrong. That's when I got the 5 I have now. I wanted an apricot also so didn't make a big stink about her but I was buying a pair of butterscotch and that's not what I got. I also know that injuries happen all the time and it's not anyone's fault. As long as it's cared for properly the animal will be fine. But when it's undisclosed it's wrong. I would have still bought him (not at full price obviously) even with the missing eye. What's upsetting was that he didn't check him before sending him or did and still didn't tell me. Needless to say, I did make a fuss about him and he did refund my money for him but I won't ever buy from him again. My buff male also doesn't look anything like his pictures did. I'm hoping that it's just because he's young and his head plumage will come in nicer once he molts but I'm not holding my breath. A nice buff male should have a dark tan head which mine doesn't. His body is all the same buff color. Just very misleading. I won't ever buy juveniles again from anyone who isn't willing to send pictures of the exact birds I'm buying. His response to my request for that was that they all look almost the same. His pictures were beautiful so stupidly I just bought them. Won't make that mistake again After all that and more research I decided that maybe it was just him and his eggs. I bought eggs from another breeder to test that theory and I was right. 1st batch I got 16 babies out 24 eggs that made it to lock down. My own fault that they didn't all make it because I made them too sticky by hatching Lily in the same incubator before the due date of the others but still got 9 healthy babies. Now have 23 more of the new breeder's eggs on day 13 of developing.

Sounds like a horrible learning experience Clousert, but you may be saving someone from making that very mistake.

Wow well glad you at least got your money back. Also glad you realized it wasn't your mistake. That's the same thing I went through with the ancona eggs. I got hosed twice, lol so shame on me. Live ducklings from now on (with a couple exceptions of eggs from people I've already hatched from).

PS I blame ALL OF YOU. For the past week I have been burning a hole into my computer trying to find call ducks!!!! I am officially OBSESSED and my 3 eggs haven't even hatched yet!!!!
