Call Ducks Finally Hatched

Still NO sassy.  :he

How's your little one doing?  I was trying some experiencements and apparently they didn't work out yet.  SO I will keep trying.  I opened Two of my Milles, The first one I made a tiny hole and cleaned the goo.  HUGE chunk of goo came out, and of course, I'm thinking OH GOOD now he can absorb.  Well needless to say it died.

So I tried a second one, did Not open his air cell just sprayed him with deluted Oxine, soaked him really good thinking OK, this should clean any goo off of him. needless to say he died,

Ive discovered If air hits those veins, they turn dark almost a black, once that happens, they seem to die.  So I have two more, that I have left alone, they are sticky but I can see one that is already trying to push on the membrane to internally pip..

SO, what does this mean to you girls.  IT MEANS EVEN IF THEY ARE STICKY, LEAVE THEM ALONE.  Give them PAST there due dates..Don't open them because once that air hits those veins it's over. let them try to internally pip, they do take LONGER, Usually my milles hatch a day early, well today is actually there due date so they are already late, I'm going to give them more time then usual as long as I don't open them, I think they will be OK.  I have lowered the humidity down to about 30.  I'm going to keep it low to see if they can successfully get out.  I was thinking of sponging one of them just to experienment with and I think I still will..  my frame of thinking is perhaps the sponging the chicken egg, will help them clear off some of that goo, but it could also do the opposite on me and cause more goo..  HUM.  HUM, let me think on which way to go..  I think I'm gonna go with sponging one since I have two left, I will not sponge the one that is pushing the membrane, I will do it to the one with less process.  Will see how it goes.

So sorry again about Sassy.

My little one was doing ok when I left for work this morning around 6am. I'm hoping to be home by 6 tonight to check on her. Such a long day and I'm a nervous wreck not being able to see her. This morning she was out of the egg but still had the string attaching it to her naval. I just pray that she's ok.

I did wait until over 24 hours had passed after she had internally pipped before I opened her though. I don't ever open anyone before internally pipping.

I have been stalking this page for a while now trying to absorb all the information I can. My first call ducks are in the incubator now using Lori's method #1. I had to come out of stalker mode for an update...have you found Sassy yet? I hope she's just playing hide and seek! Sassy come home!

Lol. It really makes me wonder how many people stalk and see how absolutely ridiculous we are. =D

Crossing fingers for her!!! My late hatcher did that too (the string thing) and he's good! Up and running with the other three.

I have two due to hatch tomorrow.

I am kinda obsessed with candling. I'm getting REALLY good at it. I think most of the SQ eggs are fertile and growing (it's only day 3) but I'm PRETTY sure they are growing.

I finally figured out how to use my candler correctly. I didn't realize it had brightness control, LOL. So now I can super light up the eggs and really see into them.

Oh and I ordered some paint geese hatching eggs :hmm

I'm going to start collecting eggs to throw in with the next batch I get from you on swap. They are going to be the last eggs I incubate for roughly a month. Have the inlaws coming to visit so I don't want any hatchings or any babies that are in the brooder. Need it all easy access.

So HEY, Lori and Diane are you two ready for eggs?! Cause I'm going to be sending you some next month :)

Don't misunderstand...I don't think you're ridiculous at all! I have 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 turtles, 3 fish tanks, 4 laying hens, 20 1 week old chicks, and 13 Bresse, 11 Khaki Campbells, 25 Calls in incubator. I don't think you're crazy - I'm aspiring to one day qualify!

Haha. It's addicting. Better be careful. I have two incubators. Working on getting a third, the janoel jn 24. Specifically for the call eggs, the trays are designed so the eggs lay down. Expensive, probably $200 and can only fit 24 according to the manual, but totally worth it if I don't have to hand rotate anymore!!!!

LOL. We do get a little stupid at times but that's what makes me love this thread :). Would you mind if I send your eggs out on Thurs? I'm hoping the girls will start giving again.. only 1 egg/day for the last 3 days uggg. Things are CRAZY at work right now. Just switched to a new computer system today and what a mess. Worked a 12 hr day and still left without finishing all that needed to be done :/

My little one looks to be doing well. She's up and about more but the string dried and stuck to the side of the egg so it was still attached to her when I got home. I peeled all around it and just left that tiny piece to finish drying and fall off on its own. Some of her feathers are stick stuck to her backside but I will work on that over the next couple of days as she gets stronger.

Yep. Just got my 3rd incubator Saturday and it already has about 60-70 eggs in it lol. Although, there's only 12 in the one I use for hatching and 48 in the other :)

Haha me too!!!

No worries Thursday is fine, the crazy weather messed my girls up too. The entire pen was flooded yesterday when it stormed. I had to dig a huge trench to get it to drain, I think I made the ducks mad, haha. They liked the water. Cleaned their pen today, threw a whole bale of hay in there. They are going crazy building nests so maybe get more eggs soon! The pencilled looked like they were trying to nest so hopefully they give me eggs soon!!'

Glad your little one is doing good. :)
