Call Ducks Finally Hatched

Its just sad. My mom is his boss so she said he would talk to him but he said he would do the right thing. I just got an email that he lied to me and didn't listen to a thing I said. He just always kept the incubator tray FULL of water and temp at 99..... Email already sent to my mom!

So, I gave this teacher guy I know some eggs to hatch because all my incubators were full and they are due today. I emailed him to ask him to candle and he told me that all eggs were infertile. I have just as many males as females (I know I need to do something about that) and I have had only ever had one infertile egg. Whats up? He had eggs in turner wrong but that shouldn't change anything should it? The eggs were only 4 days old when I gave them to him......

NO, having the eggs on a turn wrong is not going to affect them from still forming, you will have issues down the road but they would still form.

Here are some Possibilities:

his gages are off, although his settings were set perfectly, they may not be accurate. He would need to put a new gage in there to confirm that they are.

Second, Duck eggs don't do well on a turner in the first place. So I can see that being an issue as well.

Another thing to consider is to give mating time at least two weeks before incubating, so even though the eggs were four days old, the question is when did they start mating. If you had some eggs before you gave those eggs to him that developed, then that would Definitely rule out the mating issue out.

Next is this weather, we have had some very very bad weather and unless your directly underneath that hen, which I doubt it, it is possible those eggs got to cold. They may not have gotten frozen to where they crack but they could very well have been frozen from the inside.

There a many many factors to consider, you have to rule out ALL possibilities before you can assume the worst.

Another thing is traveling, how were they transported to this person, SHIPPED? Well that's a problem we are all way to familiar with, if not, did you properly handle them? Did he properly hand them as well when you gave them to him.

I have seen people come to my house and pick up eggs because they want the best hatching ever and you would NOT believe how they mishandle them. It's a tab bit shocking, because they want a good hatching but they will hold the eggs to the side like there are carrying books???

So rule out those and I will give you a list of more possibilities. LOL

Well I had already tested the eggs for fertility for about 2 and a half weeks before giving him the eggs. It was actually a warm week when I gathered the eggs (like 25 degrees lol) But they also have three heat lamps. The eggs were not shipped but they were carried by a secretary to his room and she could have mistreated the eggs. He is just frustrating! Guess who will NEVER get eggs again! He has even already asked for another batch of eggs lol.

one question I would ask him, is to act like a concerned person and say OMG, did any of the eggs Explode and ruin your bator?

You see unfertiled or not, being in the bator that long with that kind of heat. Your bound to have some Rotten eggs. There's no doubt in my mind about that. LOL ben there done that. LOL. the gasses build up and if not caught in time, BOOM, they explode, you can also SMELL a rotten egg, you don't even need to candle them. Just by opening the bator, that smell will hit you right in the face..

but if he replies "no, none went bad" or anything to that affect, I would doubt he's being truthful which tells me not to trust this person.

He just sent me an email that says that he has hatched a batch of other duck eggs by doing the same thing. Today was the first day he candled and he said none have a smell. I am doing the OMG tactic now. He then tells me I don't know what I am talking about. I have half a mind to give you (lacrystol) his number and have you call him and explain how many ducklings have died because of humidity and how many tactics you have tried.

Well then he doesn't understand the difference between a Chicken and Duck, Ducks do NOT do will, they can NOT survive on a turner the entire period. they need to come off that turner at some point. I am experiementing right now so I would be able to tell you EXACTLY what day before hatching day they need to come off.

OK one more thing to ask him. LOL this will be funny ask him to send a pic of one of the eggs, THIS will tell me A LOT.

Tell him, you need to see the entire egg to verify if it's fertiled or not. LOL, bet he doesn't have them any more..He'll say I tossed them WATCH
