Call Ducks Finally Hatched

Haha, :) I LOVE my ancona calls! That was so funny. As I was reading down through I saw the pic and how you posted that you found it on google! I had that happen with a barred muscovy pic too. I was asking questions about them and someone posted a pic of it on my post saying they found it on google. I was like "yea, that's my pic and my bird!" lol Here are a few of my other ancona calls This season I've got 1 black drake over 5 black females and 1 blue female. The rest I have are more magpie/mismarked magpie-ish patterned.
Very much in love with the abundance of cuteness. The solo one nestled in the snow is too much to handle.

So that teacher sent me a photo and it looks like a perfectly good egg. I asked him to save them and I am going over. He said he threw them in the dumpster and never even looked in them!

DUMPSTER?! Oh, god! I hope you can still save them!! This guy deserves to be punched right in the nose! Is it possible to UN-tenure a tenured teacher?

OMG @Lacrystol and @18angovem....following your teacher drama! Faulty eggs...seriously????LOL Unfortunately, he does not sound like he is being truthful with you...maybe a little defensive if he feels he made a mistake? Was he incubating them for you or were you expecting to get the ducklings back after the hatch? The reason I ask is if this is not the case, he may not understand why you are on his case about the eggs and the outcome. Many teachers who begin hatching have NO CLUE what they are doing and are learning as they go(myself included) and will make mistakes

So if you are donating them to teachers for classroom science, you will have to expect some mistakes to be made OR that they may not take the care in incubating that you, I or others in the BYC world would do....sad but true!

Not that I am defending his actions, but as a classroom teacher, it is VERY challenging to hatch in a classroom. Most classroom teachers do not have control over room temps as temperature is controlled centrally by most districts

Most districts also turn off the heat/air everyday at the end of the school day so room temps are not consistent. I have also had the unfortunate experience on having my bator unplugged by the janitor so he could vacuum

(now I have a HUGE sign that has a stop sign, says stop, do not unplug, we are waiting to hatch!!!! LOL) . I also have had hatches that are a complete fail for reasons I did not know since I followed the same procedures as previous years that were successful.

Just something to keep in mind. I try to learn from each experience and improve as I go but not all teachers are as committed as we would like them to be, so I would be checking out who I give my eggs to before I offer them.

I have been hatching in my classroom for years and LOVE the experience for myself and the kids!!!! And yes...I did become a chicken owner because I fell in love with the fluffy bundles of joy

So sorry for your experience

Cali, I really don't think this guy's actions are defensible in any way, shape, or form. Every step of the way he's made horrible mistakes and outright lied about them. And it all ended with him dumping living, near full-term baby ducklings into a dumpster to die.

Still wanna stand up for your fellow teacher?

Well it looks as though he lied and most likely theybdied a few days ago or something ad he doesn't want totell me... H ewas going to hatch them out and then give the ducklings back to me. he os supposed to know all about birds and stuff because he is the state president of the pa ornothjology society. I think that he just has ego problems and saying theeggs wrre faulty helps his ego. Lacyratol tinks heis keeping the duckling for himself. Lol. (Sorry about typos I am on my tablet )
