Call Ducks Finally Hatched

The cochin is mine! Not buff goose guy's lol. The joint is not swollen. Will try to get a pic for you. I did see some chairs in my research, so maybe I'll try it since it worked for you. She's getting better each day though. I have another frizzled one that was born at the same time, this one is slower feathering in, but might end up frizzled too. Ugh.
Thanks! Will keep you posted.

Ok well it doesn't matter if it's a duck or a chicken. Just look at the knee cap if its swelled up and doesn't go down you can put slipped tendon on the plate. If it does go down then I would say it's not.

Jumpy chairs can be used for both. You should see how I've made a jumpy chair hahahbaha it's kind of cool lol

This will be my fourth hatch this year, I've helped MANY babies! Lol, I'd like to say I've become quite a pro at it actually (; In my last hatch I had two yellow babies that didn't make it, I was unaware that they were breech. I think I've finally learned when it's a beak trying to internally pip or a bum (; I want to be prepared this time for the possibility of a breech baby with a high chance of me being able to help it hatch, so I can have a happy and healthy little one!

So your saying the HD (hatching disease) disease is kicking in and your doing all you can to control it, I got cha..

Increase the niacin, even with Chickens, research shows that when giving a duck or a chicken niacin leg issues have been corrected. I was researching this and it's amazing, Ive seen pics of chicks/ducks with or without niacin and the Difference is INCREDIABLE.. So niacin isn't just for ducks although they need more of it, you should still use it for chickens as well.

For this reason, is why I put One pill of Vitamin B complete and poultry drench in a quart of water for all my birds..

I am glad the little diet soda birdie is getting better.

Aww thank you!

They have MY idea of the jumpy chair on the Internet. Omg that's awesome.

Well what I have seen isn't necessarily a "jumpy" chair. Just kinda like slings, and contraptions to support their weight, but allow them to touch the floor too. Not sure which design I am going with.

I read that too, so I am giving them all some, even the ones with no apparent issues. Also read that slipped tendon's have been linked to insufficient manganese... in the PARENT birds... nothing I can do about that. They didn't come from my flock.

here's how I made a jumpy chair, I took a Potpourricup, the bottom part, I wrapped it up with Vet wrap poked two holes for the feet and set my chick in it. I made the holes a little close to the edge so that his chest is laying on the it. Then I would get two cups small ones, place them next to the jumpy chair with two soda lids, one was for food and the other for water. He was able to stretch his neck and eat or drink at will...

the idea of the potpourri cup was to have his feet dangling but toes touch the bottom, it was so that not all his weight was on his legs until he got enough strength to work them.. when he was ready he would use his legs to escape, BOOM, success.. If he got out, I knew his legs were strong enough to be on his own... Mine was in the cup for about 24 hours, then out he came. LOL...
