Call Ducks Finally Hatched

Couldn't help myself, had to help bust the little guy out! He didn't need much help, zero blood vessels showing and within a couple of minutes he kicked himself free of the shell: put him in the brooder already, very healthy, robust. Now I'm worried about the others, why aren't the others showing some action? I may be stuck the rest of the day opening eggs up it looks like. These eggs were all set the same day, they should be hatching at the same time. :/

You may also get ahead of the program and help too soon, why in such a big hurry? and what a cutie. Congrats!

My first intervention, i dropped this egg last night when removing them from the turner, shell cracked, didn't think he'd make it. Pulled him out to see if he's alive in there and suprisingly he seems ok, just a little dried out from the shell being cracked. Suprisingly he's not white, guess my gray call drake isn't sterile after all because the eggs are from white hens. Looks like he'll be gray bibbed color.

Good because from all I have read is if at all possible let them hatch on their own. Glad you were able to save the baby you dropped..I think calls are a little different in they have such short bills they do need intervention at times. I hope Lacrystol sees this and posts she is our expert call hatcher.

Where is @Lacrystol when you need her?

Does anybody have tips on sexing 2 week old call ducklings? Are call duck males generally the smaller or bigger of the ducklings in their group?

Now THAT!, is cute! She's a tiny little duck too. Nice grey hen.

Thank you! :) she really is super tiny, but the fastest thing I've seen on 2 webs, lol... she came from another BYC'ers greys...

At 2 weeks I think the only sure way is vent sexing... in a couple more weeks the girls should start quacking loudly while the boys have lower, quiter raspy quacks...
