a nice tread about call ducks on a web site this lady has her stuff togeather with silkies and calls. What a pretty picture of your calls under the bridge. There is a lady in Mo Kathymo who lost here barred rock large fowl for 45 min last week found them down and over the hill at a neighbors place near some mean dogs. She got them home and locked them up.Why do the good ones do this.??

Got to go out side and change the water in my duck pens. Glad you started this thread you got some great Rhode Island Reds to look at and calls would be nice to have on your farm. I am very low on ducks got to sell one more pair and then hatch about 30 this spring. bob

Just a comment--sundown is who I hatched my Muffin from:) great fertility in her eggs but I stink at incubating them tried in bator-nothing tried under a broody and all I got was Muffin 5 days late-but most were fertile-just bad hatching luck on my part:-(

One of the problems with call eggs is the air cells are to small when they are due to hatch. Reason to much humidity in the incubator. Down here i use a dry incubation method no water. I also, have home made wooden Red Wood incubators. The redwood gives and takes humidty better than press board or foam. Most big time call duck breeders use the old Lehy wooden incubators from 30 years ago because of their humidor method of holding the correct mositure. I use buff brahma sitting hens and after the eggs are about ten days old I go out at night and spray the eggs with clean water two times under the hen. I have used one gray call hen from Art Lundgren who hatched good for me.

Then after you hatch them you have to go through two to three weeks of carefull brooding or they can die on you. After that its a light bulb and a little pan of water to swim in.

I hatch about 70% of my fertile eggs and lost three little ones to stupid stuff I did. Going to make some new brooders this year with wire floors to keep them dry and have drop pans under the wire to catch the waist and water that they mess up from the water bottles.

Its not to hard to sell the left overs. I hatched 20 this year kept about six and the others went fast.

Have a nice afternoon. Got to go to work. bob

MY BABIES ARE HOME SAFE AND SOUND!!!!

dH ARRIVED TONIGHT FROM HUNTING CAMP ASKING ABOUT OUR BABIES. I told him no luck since he last checked in:-( So 9pm we drive to the Spot and he gets a long pole while I hid on the other side of dock with the net. He spooks them and 1 darted right at me. I snagged him tight in my left arm while crouching in a squated position-standing on two beams! He startles the other one at me and bam netted him too-We load them in the car one snuggled in my left arm as I drove stick shift to the house -Dh snuggled the other one while giving him the "what for lecture" and telling them that they made mommy and daddy very worried and to never do that again to us!

We arrive two minutes later to the garage and there was Muffin waiting for them running in one spot so happy. We put them down in their run and all 3 ducks ran circles around eachother in such happiness to be reunited-then one of them jumped into the heated water bowl and that was that! thank you everyone for the well wishes and my babies safe return:)

and hattiegun once again so jealous of that mansion you call a duck hut!
